Rick at Circus Circus - uploaded to flicker
uploaded to flickr

Today was walk and explore down The Las Vegas Strip while taking lots of pictures day. We met Crystal, the coolest bird you’ll ever see, at the habitat at The Flamingo. She calls when you call her and she comes fast. I got Beth on the roller coaster at Circus Circus, there is a five story M&M store across the street, 40-50 MPH winds are quite strong, and as strange as it seems to me, The State of the Union is on at 6 in the evening on the west coast.

Last night, after having a thrilling time on top of the Stratosphere, I decided it must have scared the shit out of me and I didn’t even know it. I woke up last night and started dwelling on the fact that I was hanging over the side of a 103 story building, picturing myself plunging down and picturing myself doing the same thing while sky diving. I was quite taking aback by the whole thing. It’s time to go out again.

We’re in Vegas. It started out raining and foggy today so we decided to take a road trip to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mohave Willow Beach. The landscape is beautiful, breathtaking in fact. We ate at an old stand alone A&W with frosted mugs and all. After a little more driving, we went to the top of The Stratosphere and rode some rides and “observed” in the observation deck. As jet lag is catching up with us, we’re hanging in the room tonight. Family is on.

I don’t talk much here about work because you never know who might see it but work is literally driving me crazy lately. I have my finger right on the problem but here again, it’s one of those things that I can’t talk about here. Maybe the problem will work itself out. Being said, I can’t wait for vacation, sooner than later.

You know I’ve always a huge Idol fan. This year, I ain’t even watching it. Maybe the finals, maybe.

Rick in the Adirondack Mountains

Adirondack Mountains

Lake Pleasant in Speculator

A rockin’ trip to the Adirondacks today as you can see. What do you expect to see in the Adirondacks? Beautiful snow filled mountains, ice covered lakes, literally hundreds of snowmobilers, and the biggest, best tasting calzone ever. Did I mention bone chilling temperatures and wind chill?

And shortly after we got home, my mom called and proclaimed my dad would be getting out of the hospital tomorrow. Except I didn’t know he was in the hospital again. He fainted Thursday night. I talked to him earlier that day. Turns out he’s got a giant ulcer that’s been bleeding into his system for quite some time which is the reason he hasn’t wanted to do anything for quite some time. When he dies, I hope someone tells me.

Suzanne Pleshette, so beautiful and talented.

My old routine was to drive home from work and then hit the grocery store, just enough for dinner. I don’t know how we got out of that habit but I think it has to do with the thing that where we do most of our shopping is not all that convenient but it’s a lot cheaper then the closer grocery store. Tonight I made a run for dinner to the Price Chopper and honestly, it doesn’t take much more than 5 minutes to get there. It’s a lot more expensive than any other store in the area but it’s really the nicest and most urban. I got some sort of kick out of it and I’m not sure why.

My brother’s best friend died last weekend, way too young. He’s had cancer and it finally got the best of him. There were 1200 people at his funeral and more than that at the funeral home the night before. I don’t even have 1200 acquaintances. You ever wonder what people will say at your funeral? …what kind of effect you’ve had on other people …what you’ve done for other people, or for the Earth …etc, etc …ever wonder?

And on a not so deep thought, in mid December, it gets dark shortly after 4PM round these parts. On a cloudy day, even earlier. Today the sun was out and it was still light out at 5PM. How freaking wonderful, is it summer? No, it’s gonna be zero this weekend.

The medical examiner has announced Ike Turner’s died from cocaine overdose. What a surprise.

A dog wash at the car wash is a cool idea. Kaleb did not like taking a bath.

Ron Viarengo is an idiot.

Handy Smurf

The American Civil Liberties Union yesterday filed court papers in support of US Senator Larry Craig’s fight to have his conviction for soliciting sex in an airport toilet overturned. The ACLU brief cited a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling that people having sex in a closed toilet cubicle in a public toilet have an “expectation of privacy” and if the Senator was attempting to engage an undercover police officer for sex he was not acting illegally…

The Smurfs are 50 this year. I had no idea that they actually pre-dated their American cartoon. I loved The Smurfs when I was a kid, yes granted a big old kid. Handy was my favorite followed by Greedy Smurf and Vanity Smurf. Being a Smurf would be great. All those guy Smurfs and only one girl Smurf. Yes we know Smurfette was sluty but not even she would be able to take care of a whole village of horny male Smurfs…and that’s where I would come in.

And why Family Circus, why Family Circus do you exist? Why?!!

Salt Lake City Click for larger

This a picture from Salt Lake City in 2001. It’s a beautiful place.

Got rid of the piano today, gave it to a friend so she doesn’t have to get up at 4am to practice at school anymore. The only thing I asked was, I didn’t have to help. It’s gone. It’s strange we now have this window that we’ve never been able to look through before and a huge open space.

Fried Squash...yummy tasty

Over the longest while, I’ve noticed something very strange about myself. –Warning: Too much information may follow– When I go to the bathroom, (number 2) I yawn. Uncontrollable yawns. So much yawning, water pours out of my eyes where I can even read. Before I start, no yawning. After I’m done, no yawning. One of the many strange things about myself.

A few days off until the next primary. The news has been pretty much overkill but you can’t help being excited with the whole process. No matter what happens, we’re gonna have a new president and unless Mitt Romney wins, it’s not gonna be a puppet anymore. It’s no secret I love Hilary Clinton. Although our Junior Senator, she runs circles around our ‘Senior’ Senator Charles Schumer. I really don’t have a lot of problems with Barack Obama and as much as I like John Edwards, there’s something about him I can’t just put my finger on. I don’t agree with John McCain on a lot of things but I like the way he’s straight forward on what he believes. What ever happens, just like any manager, a president is no better than the staff he surrounds him or herself with.

My dad’s out of the hospital and starts physical therapy Monday. Seems to be doing well for know but he’s gonna have to get off the couch.

And just as a matter of fact, we are seeing spots of green here and there because we had a record high of 60 yesterday and this morning, on this 9th day of January, we had a thunderstorm warning. Tomorrow’s high of 42 seems cool now but it’s still more than 10 degrees above normal. Also just noticing, been here almost five years.
