She doesn’t like the rain but will jump in any body of water she can.

Floor and walls and stuff

Foyer with new paint and wainscotting Foyer with new paint and wainscotting

Haven’t heard much from me lately because we’ve been working on the house again. Put up wainscoting in the foyer and painted that and the upstairs. It took a LOT longer than I thought it would. I should just double the time it think it’s gonna take me to do anything.

New wainscotting waiting to be painted Took up the carpet in the dining room

On the left is a during picture and on the right is where we took up the carpet in the dining room today. We’re putting down a new floor.

And we have wood floors in the living room Painting...

Strangely enough, we noticed the living room is the only room in the house that doesn’t have the wood covered with tile. It may pose a quandary.

Casey Looks....

And here’s Casey.

I also had another biopsy this week, this time on my hand. My best guess is it’s another carcinoma.

Vintage Dairy Queen sign coming down in Hickory.

Matt Damon....

Matt Damon will be playing Liberace's boyfriend

Matt Damon is gonna star as Liberace’s boyfriend in the new Liberace movie next year. Michael Douglas will be playing Liberace which seems kind of weird to me. Matt Damon is God by the way.

Yesterday, the Arizona state house passed legislation that says that straight couples will have first dibs on children. Only if no married straight couples can be found would a child become available to others. This would overrule the existing practice of the Department of Economic Security that makes the “best interests of the child” the primary factor when considering placing a child for adoption.

Snow Dawg

It’s snowing…prolly about six inches, but believe or not, this is our first bigger snow since early December. While the rest of the east coast has been socked a couple of times, we’ve been relatively dry, but this one seems to be piling up quicker than they thought. We’ll see.

CBS Reports: The Homosexuals

This is a special news report from Mike Wallace called CBS Reports: The Homosexuals from 1967. If you have 45 minutes, watch it. It has interviews with Gore Vidal, various members of The Mattachine Society, politicians, prosecutors, law enforcement, and both closed and out in the open gay people.

It’s been a while since I’ve put anything here. Just keeping up with other people’s stuff and spending TOO much time on facebook when I AM in front of the computer, and then also just doing real life things to amuse myself, I guess this blog thing takes a back seat much like I’ve seen it has with countless others.

We were supposed to get some snow today but like the rest of the winter, looks like we’re out of luck. They’ve downgraded expectations to 3-6 inches….and that’s really alright with me. We’re usually due 60-70 inches of snow a season but so far, we had that snow of 6 or 8 inches in early December and a few small snows since then, but really nothing. It’s been COLD though, OMG! I hate it. This year has had only 5 days over 40and only 9 over freezing. Can you tell I just watched the weather guy? This is Casey wanting to jump onto The Mohawk River after a bird

Riverside Park, Schenectady, NY, February 2008

This is Lake Champlain from a road trip a couple of weeks ago. We had never been all the way to the very northern part on Vermont so we made our way Plattsburgh, NY and took the ferry over to Vermont and then to St. Albans where we ate here (and they freaking had everything) and then to northern Vermont and then to Canada. We made our way into the Canadian countryside where where we explored for a while and then set the GPS to come home. THIS is where we entered the United States again. I would have taken pictures but I think they may frown on that especially considering we had a remote starter hidden under the seat because it looks like a bomb and the fact that Duncan had a hard time finding his license on the way back through so I was sure we were were about to get detained and stripped searched in this cabin they called a security checkpoint.

Ice fishing and skating on Lake Champaign

And finally, if you haven’t seen this great Google commercial, take a look.

Casey's Christmas

Casey got a Christmas Present

Ahhh, I can’t believe I gotta work tomorrow but we had a nice Christmas, very simple and relaxing. We are officially in a deep freeze, that being 10 straight days that don’t get over 32, seems like more. It actually snowed a little bit today, just enough to make the old snow look clean. We should get to 38 tomorrow with snow tonight, then sleet, then freezing rain, then rain tomorrow. The only reason I talk about the weather is because I thought the official deep freeze thing was interesting. In the summer, the official definition of a heat wave is 3 days in a row over 90. My god, you wouldn’t believe how happy the weather guys get when they can declare a heat wave.

The Box Room

The Box Room, originally uploaded by jeeptick.

I went to the attic today, probably for the first time this year to retrieve a box from the “box room”. Couldn’t even get dog to come up. She was chicken….same dog is also scared of a neighborhood cat. We have a chicken dog.

The Winter of Frozen Dreams

That kind of describes my winter…and spring, but that’s not what I’m talking about. That’s the movie they shot here in Schenectady last year. Saw it a few days ago and it was just okay, nothing special. But the the images were great, not because it was filmed here, the the location was 1977 small town Wisconsin in the middle of winter and well, that’s here. Got to see the creek where we walk Casey, the Mohawk River, lots of City Hall shots, inside and out, and Union College. Also the GE Plot and Mikes Hot Dogs though the house on Avenue A they did a lot of shooting at I could not pick out. Like I said, it’s just okay so only rent it if you live around here, otherwise move along.

I thought I just wouldn’t say anything about Michael Jackson but his music was an important part of my kid-hood and young adulthood….but he disappointed me. At work last night, it has hard to find anyone really sad and I myself did not shed a tear. A lot of jokes were passed but I don’t know if gay people disliked him most or straight guys. Only a few young girls seemed upset and protested his innocence.

BTW, my leg is doing OK. My doc gave me the release to do anything I wanted as long as I was comfortable doing it. I still move at a snail’s pace and my first try at impact was quite painful but I can walk pretty good and lift heavy stuff, just slowly…and I’m still weak. I did walk Casey around the block which took forever and I think she was trying to kill me but I held my own pretty good.

My thoughts are with Michael and Lara while their dog Madison is going through a hard time right now.

Pittsfield, Veronica, Snowmobiling, Alpacas…

I’ve been trying harder to move my old html entries to wordpress. Yesterday I got to July 2007 and it struck me as to how hard that month was when Kaleb died, really the next year struck me as hard. It seems to be a year that hardly seemed to exist at some times. I’m just glad to have made it through it. She was just a dog, how does one deal with the loss of a spouse?

While riding the long way to Pittsfield, MA today, the song Veronica by Elvis Costello came on the radio. I remember once after a phone call with my dad when he was not doing good, that song came on and I just lost it…We also saw a couple of alpacas and I got a picture but I’m still sad I didn’t get a picture of the camel we saw in Northern Vermont several weeks ago. By the time we turned around, the camel had gone into a barn. It’s starting to warm up, hell we’re getting into the thirties these days, but they’re still ice fishing and snowmobiling on the lake in Pittsfield. We did a little shopping at The Berkshire Mall, traversed the mountains again and came home. Beautiful sunny day…

Now getting ready for a new Simpsons in HD!

My dog don’t have no job

I think I can jump this fence

The snow is high at the corner of Parkwood and The Plaza

Oh Anne DeRocher of 1003 Nott St in Schenectady, NY, why don’t you clear your sidewalk? You seem to have no problem clearing the giant parking lot in your backyard. Is it laziness or just a totally apathetic attitude for everyone who walks by your corner house/business? I walk by your house at LEAST once a day and it’s no fun for me or the hundreds other people including kids from two different schools who must trudge into the street which is severely narrowed by snow, because of your total indifference. You claim to be a nutritionist, one who should be concerned for other’s well being…

OMG, pull me out of my bubble. I was just looking at the December jobless numbers that were just released and although our local 5.9% unemployment rate, the state 7% rate, and the national 7.2% unemployment rate didn’t really surprise me, the numbers down south are crazy. My hometown in Mecklenburg is more than 8.3% and that’s the lowest in the area. The triangle area is at 7%, probably both due to the loss of the banking jobs and tech jobs respectively. Somebody told me yesterday they expected the rate to be at 11% before it turned around but I disagreed.  Now, maybe not so much. Glad I have a job I like…most of the time anyway.

Edit: I will be adding titles

We may actually get above freezing tomorrow for the first time this year. We’ve gotten 39 inches of snow already this season which is 15 above what we normally have by this time. 2 1/2 more months of winter…it’s gonna be a long one. Did I mention it’s cold?

Slumdog Millionaire was nominated for best picture this morning. I really don’t give a rat’s ass about such things but it’s really well deserved. I hope it wins. I can’t believe none of the actors were nominated for anything.

I took Casey to the vet for an ear infection this morning. I like her so much more than Kaleb’s old vet. They are also a LOT more expensive.

I hate making up titles for entries so I won’t be doing it anymore.
