Cruising

Bahama's Cruise

I had no idea I hadn’t shown up here in so long and hadn’t even mentioned our cruise to The Bahamas and Kennedy space Station. A very nice way to spend a week in December.  Here’s some pictures here and some more here.

I almost made a very hostile post the other day aimed at religion and Christmas and Alzheimers and dementia and what happens to us as we get old and relating them all to each other, but never got around to it.  I still plan to do this but only when I can think it out better. I then decided to do one about my dad because I’ve been thinking about him a lot lately. Maybe I’ll get around to that tomorrow.

Vacation

Petunia the Pig

I took a very short trip to North Carolina this week, saw some family and friends, and met a pig. This is Petunia, my brother and his girlfriend’s new pig. It is a pig….

It was the one year anniversary of my dad’s death this week and I am very impressed with how well my mom is doing. We did the Thanksgiving thing with family on Sunday, did some home repair stuff on Monday, visited my dad’s grave on Tuesday, and visited Ray and Tommy Tuesday night. It’s strange, on the way home Wednesday, I had a hundred ideas of things to write about when I had the chance, but right now, not one is coming to mind.

On second thought, my family is awesome. I am thankful for them all, even the one who is fucking up royally right now. Thursday, Duncan fixed the great Thanksgiving feast and I love him and am also thankful for him as well as all my friends

Happy Birthday Duncan

NYC 2010 Statue of Liberty

I love you….and I like the picture sideways

Defying Gravity

Lupies....Charlotte, NC

I was lovin some Lupies while in Charlotte….

Wicked

…and we went to see Wicked while in New York. OMG! Still can’t get Defying Gravity out of my mind.

OH! It’s been such a long time since the last blog entry.  Since then, I have traveled to North Carolina and back and really had the greatest time seeing so many friends and family though I must admit, it can be quite exhausting. My mom is doing so well and my dad even seems to be doing a little better but not by much. He does seem to take his medicine without any argument now but anything else is like pulling teeth. My mom is a rock….a crazy rock.  My niece and nephews are growing up so fast as well as every other kid in my life….SLOW DOWN WHY DON’T YOU!!!  A couple of days were detoured spent at the hospital while my aunt recovered from a drug reaction where I (we) thought she was gonna die. I think my mom had prepared herself, my aunt was literally out of her mind. She’s actually doing quite well now. My oldest nephew is officially an adult these days being a great dad and trying to have another….who’d thought? My other nephew just graduated and OMG! he is so much bigger than I am it’s crazy. He’s really a good kid but doesn’t know what he wants to do. My niece is freaking awesome. She came back with me and we went down to the city to see Wicked and sight-see a bit, had a great time and got to get to know her again. I had to work some that week so Duncan took her and his sister to Toronto and Montreal and had a blast I heard. My brother is awesome and I got to spend a good deal of time with him this time….I miss him.

…..and lots of GOOD food!  Still missed a lot of people I wanted to see but  NC is a big state, but saw Ray, Tommy, Margaret, Luis, Joe, Chris, and Michael & Lara…love you all

2010 turned out to be the year we finally had air conditioning put in, and it’s a good thing too because it’s been the hottest summer we’ve had since we moved up here, sitting in it right now. Spent what has seemed like countless hours working on the front porch and now working on the back one but it doesn’t seen to have the same priority in my mind.

Hiked up to the Kaaterskill Falls last weekend and did a small road trip to Vermont today. Other than that, work at work and work at home.

11 Years Ago Today…

San Francisco 2000

Today is our 11th anniversary, so here’s something a little sappy, eighties style.

CBS Reports: The Homosexuals

This is a special news report from Mike Wallace called CBS Reports: The Homosexuals from 1967. If you have 45 minutes, watch it. It has interviews with Gore Vidal, various members of The Mattachine Society, politicians, prosecutors, law enforcement, and both closed and out in the open gay people.

It’s been a while since I’ve put anything here. Just keeping up with other people’s stuff and spending TOO much time on facebook when I AM in front of the computer, and then also just doing real life things to amuse myself, I guess this blog thing takes a back seat much like I’ve seen it has with countless others.

We were supposed to get some snow today but like the rest of the winter, looks like we’re out of luck. They’ve downgraded expectations to 3-6 inches….and that’s really alright with me. We’re usually due 60-70 inches of snow a season but so far, we had that snow of 6 or 8 inches in early December and a few small snows since then, but really nothing. It’s been COLD though, OMG! I hate it. This year has had only 5 days over 40and only 9 over freezing. Can you tell I just watched the weather guy? This is Casey wanting to jump onto The Mohawk River after a bird

Riverside Park, Schenectady, NY, February 2008

This is Lake Champlain from a road trip a couple of weeks ago. We had never been all the way to the very northern part on Vermont so we made our way Plattsburgh, NY and took the ferry over to Vermont and then to St. Albans where we ate here (and they freaking had everything) and then to northern Vermont and then to Canada. We made our way into the Canadian countryside where where we explored for a while and then set the GPS to come home. THIS is where we entered the United States again. I would have taken pictures but I think they may frown on that especially considering we had a remote starter hidden under the seat because it looks like a bomb and the fact that Duncan had a hard time finding his license on the way back through so I was sure we were were about to get detained and stripped searched in this cabin they called a security checkpoint.

Ice fishing and skating on Lake Champaign

And finally, if you haven’t seen this great Google commercial, take a look.

Vegas, Back from...

Las Vegas 2009

Grand Canyon 2009 West Rim

The reason you haven’t heard from me in a while is because we’ve been to Vegas and beyond and had a great time.  OMG! We got to see Cher at Caesars Palace! Must I say, she was just spectacular. Her truly live performance was unflawed. The show chronicles her life and everything is costumed and perfectly choreographed.

OMG! We saw Mystére! It’s a Cirque du Soleil show and I(we) loved it. We saw another last time and it was great so there was no way we were not going to se another while we were there. It’s too hard to describe one of these in words, you just gotta go.

We went to the south rim of the Grand Canyon on our last trip and it by far has the best views and it is the most traveled and visited. This time we decided (literally at the spur of the moment)  to visit the south rim. It was also beautiful and home to the skywalk. The last 15 miles to the entrance is a gravel road and it can be somewhat discombobulating but the destination is worth it. The first moment on the skywalk is (can be) scary but after that, take in the view.

Another adventure was Red Rock Canyon, literally right outside of Las Vegas. Breathtaking views, hiking, and rock climbing if you’re into it. We mostly just went sight seeing.

All and all, a nice and thankfully, restful trip (I love sleeping in). When we got home at 1:00am, we had 10 inches of snow on the car at the airport but when we got home, a couple of our neighbors had cleared our driveway. That was nice.

I now hear a snowplow going down the street…nice…and we saw burrows by the way…

I broke my leg

 Pondering in the hospital

In case you hadn’t heard, I broke my leg. Friday I was walking Casey down the icy driveway at about 5:30 in the AM and at the bottom of the driveway, I was down. I had to drag myself up the driveway and up the back stairs into the door to the kitchen. I called for Duncan but he was still asleep so I grabbed my phone off the table and called him. He was downstairs  in a second. As I laid on the floor, he wisely talked me into calling paramedics because I told him to splint it and drive me. We live three blocks from the hospital. The paramedics were there in just two minutes because we also live just two blocks the other way from the fire department. I got there where everybody was just great to me. I hung out in the emergency department for most of the morning where I had x-rays and a diagnosis  which consisted of me having a rod placed in my leg at 5 in the afternoon. Next, after everyone had been so gentle with me, it was time to place my leg into a splint until my surgery. I almost cried, even being filled with morphine it was the most pain I have ever felt. It seemed to go on for an eternity and then some more.  I was then admitted, had my surgery and came home yesterday afternoon.

When I am sick, I usually want to be left alone. It ain’t gonna happen like that this time. I can’t put any weight on my leg, virtually helpless. I have to give myself shots and keep it elevated.  I don’t know what I would do without Duncan. As the snow falls today, he is out taking care of what has to be done. He has looked after my every need since I’ve been home….and even before. Thank You, and I Love You.

Party Sox

Party Sox, originally uploaded by jeeptick.

I had my party sox on last night for our night out on the town for our 10th anniversary. We went to see The Wrestler after dinner and it was really good. I don’t think it’s done all that well at the box office and that’s pretty sad. A seriously surprise ending and then it was over leaving a lot up to you. Only two people got up before the end of the final credits because we were all waiting for something else to happen.

I finally finished my list. I wrote off Cadillac Records a couple of days after the list because the reviews by all were just terrible. Every other movie rocked. My favorite was Slumdog Millionaire closely followed by Milk The movie month (that turned into two and a half months) was great. My plan is to set movie goals for the summer next.

Happy Valentine’s Day. We spent it going to Utica.

10 Years Today

 Summer 1999 Duncan and Rick
Our first summer

I wanna take a minute or two, and give much respect due
To the man that’s made a difference in my world
And although most men are ho’s he flows on the down low
Cuz I never heard about him with another guy
But I don’t sweat it because it’s just pathetic
To let it get me involved in that he said/she said crowd
I know that ain’t nobody perfect, I give props to those who deserve it
And believe me y’all, he’s worth it
So here’s to the future cuz we got through the past
I finally found somebody that can make me laugh…

OK, I’ve been dying to give a Salt-N-Pepa salute to Duncan. Today is our tenth anniversary. I love you man, you changed my life so much and sorry your roses came a week early because I did too many drugs the day I ordered them. The sentiment lives on…Lookin’ forward to our tradition.
