Washington Park, originally uploaded by jeeptick. When I was a kid, my dad’s work boots were always sitting in the den whenever he was at home. He came home, took them off, and there they stayed until he left. They always seemed HUGE to me. Right now, my feet are bigger than his ever were but somehow, they don’t seem all that big. I wonder if little kids would think different. Now, my dad has a hard time cutting his own toenails. He talks about how he needs to mow the lawn but rarely does. Mostly that’s for my nephew. He doesn’t bathe much because he has a hard time in the tub and shower. On the phone, he ask me the same questions over and over. Sometimes he tells me stories from several days or weeks ago like they were yesterday. And he doesn’t wear work boots any more. On the lighter side, our new floor is done and it really looks good. I couldn’t be happier. I got to work in the yard today for the first time this year, planted a few new shrubs and all that spring yard cleaning stuff. And last but not least, Mexican Radio is coming to Schenectady. Me and Duncan love that place. Haven’t heard much from me lately because we’ve been working on the house again. Put up wainscoting in the foyer and painted that and the upstairs. It took a LOT longer than I thought it would. I should just double the time it think it’s gonna take me to do anything. On the left is a during picture and on the right is where we took up the carpet in the dining room today. We’re putting down a new floor. Strangely enough, we noticed the living room is the only room in the house that doesn’t have the wood covered with tile. It may pose a quandary. And here’s Casey. I also had another biopsy this week, this time on my hand. My best guess is it’s another carcinoma. Vintage Dairy Queen sign coming down in Hickory.
We went on an awesome road trip last weekend seeing seven feet of snow, not sure why I didn’t really take a lot of pictures, guessing I was more interested in just looking. Fell on my ass Monday…DAMN THAT ICE!!!…and my butt has been sore for a week and I think I may have another skin cancer on my hand. Hopefully whatever this thing is the doc can just zap that thing off. And can anybody tell me why hater Roy Ashburn was never exposed as being gay if everybody, including Chris Cabaldon, supposedly knew? It’s been one year ago today that I broke my leg. It took a long time for me to get over it and it’s still not back to normal. I can’t run for any distance and it can hurt really bad if I lay on it wrong. It took a toll on me not only physically, but mentally. There was a day when I couldn’t make it up the steps without being out of breath so really, it could be worse. Google has scanned The Schenectady Gazette back to 1922 and plans to go back to 1887. It’s pretty cool just looking at the ads but I have already found several references to places I know and that are still around. The twenties were Schenectady’s heyday. This, would be awesome if it ever comes to fruition when The Schenectady Museum becomes The New York Science Center. This is a special news report from Mike Wallace called CBS Reports: The Homosexuals from 1967. If you have 45 minutes, watch it. It has interviews with Gore Vidal, various members of The Mattachine Society, politicians, prosecutors, law enforcement, and both closed and out in the open gay people. It’s been a while since I’ve put anything here. Just keeping up with other people’s stuff and spending TOO much time on facebook when I AM in front of the computer, and then also just doing real life things to amuse myself, I guess this blog thing takes a back seat much like I’ve seen it has with countless others. We were supposed to get some snow today but like the rest of the winter, looks like we’re out of luck. They’ve downgraded expectations to 3-6 inches….and that’s really alright with me. We’re usually due 60-70 inches of snow a season but so far, we had that snow of 6 or 8 inches in early December and a few small snows since then, but really nothing. It’s been COLD though, OMG! I hate it. This year has had only 5 days over 40and only 9 over freezing. Can you tell I just watched the weather guy? This is Casey wanting to jump onto The Mohawk River after a bird This is Lake Champlain from a road trip a couple of weeks ago. We had never been all the way to the very northern part on Vermont so we made our way Plattsburgh, NY and took the ferry over to Vermont and then to St. Albans where we ate here (and they freaking had everything) and then to northern Vermont and then to Canada. We made our way into the Canadian countryside where where we explored for a while and then set the GPS to come home. THIS is where we entered the United States again. I would have taken pictures but I think they may frown on that especially considering we had a remote starter hidden under the seat because it looks like a bomb and the fact that Duncan had a hard time finding his license on the way back through so I was sure we were were about to get detained and stripped searched in this cabin they called a security checkpoint. And finally, if you haven’t seen this great Google commercial, take a look. Ahhh, I can’t believe I gotta work tomorrow but we had a nice Christmas, very simple and relaxing. We are officially in a deep freeze, that being 10 straight days that don’t get over 32, seems like more. It actually snowed a little bit today, just enough to make the old snow look clean. We should get to 38 tomorrow with snow tonight, then sleet, then freezing rain, then rain tomorrow. The only reason I talk about the weather is because I thought the official deep freeze thing was interesting. In the summer, the official definition of a heat wave is 3 days in a row over 90. My god, you wouldn’t believe how happy the weather guys get when they can declare a heat wave.

Schenectady Fire Department, originally uploaded by jeeptick. This is Fire Station No. 4 in our neighborhood back in the day compared to how it looks today. A lot of the old fire houses have closed or moved but this one still sees a lot of action. I think it would be cool to convert one to a house and live in it… The reason you haven’t heard from me in a while is because we’ve been to Vegas and beyond and had a great time. OMG! We got to see Cher at Caesars Palace! Must I say, she was just spectacular. Her truly live performance was unflawed. The show chronicles her life and everything is costumed and perfectly choreographed. OMG! We saw Mystére! It’s a Cirque du Soleil show and I(we) loved it. We saw another last time and it was great so there was no way we were not going to se another while we were there. It’s too hard to describe one of these in words, you just gotta go. We went to the south rim of the Grand Canyon on our last trip and it by far has the best views and it is the most traveled and visited. This time we decided (literally at the spur of the moment) to visit the south rim. It was also beautiful and home to the skywalk. The last 15 miles to the entrance is a gravel road and it can be somewhat discombobulating but the destination is worth it. The first moment on the skywalk is (can be) scary but after that, take in the view. Another adventure was Red Rock Canyon, literally right outside of Las Vegas. Breathtaking views, hiking, and rock climbing if you’re into it. We mostly just went sight seeing. All and all, a nice and thankfully, restful trip (I love sleeping in). When we got home at 1:00am, we had 10 inches of snow on the car at the airport but when we got home, a couple of our neighbors had cleared our driveway. That was nice. I now hear a snowplow going down the street…nice…and we saw burrows by the way… |
