Shop Rite

So the new Shop Rite is opening tomorrow, exactly 6 minutes from here, and where else would it be the talk of the town? I guess with all the crappy news over the last month, people get excited about the silliest news, everybody except Price Chopper that is. Shop Rite is planning on opening a few stores in the area.

We took a drive to Schoharie and Middleburg today and it was heartbreaking. These were just two of the many towns flooded out by Hurricane Irene a month ago and 80% of the businesses are still closed.  House after house after house were gutted or just abandoned. The roadsides are littered with piles of debris and the yards were full of people working on their houses. The weather started getting cold today and I hope these people are able to get back into their houses before the snow falls. I know a lot of them are gone forever.

Defying Gravity

Lupies....Charlotte, NC

I was lovin some Lupies while in Charlotte….

Wicked

…and we went to see Wicked while in New York. OMG! Still can’t get Defying Gravity out of my mind.

OH! It’s been such a long time since the last blog entry.  Since then, I have traveled to North Carolina and back and really had the greatest time seeing so many friends and family though I must admit, it can be quite exhausting. My mom is doing so well and my dad even seems to be doing a little better but not by much. He does seem to take his medicine without any argument now but anything else is like pulling teeth. My mom is a rock….a crazy rock.  My niece and nephews are growing up so fast as well as every other kid in my life….SLOW DOWN WHY DON’T YOU!!!  A couple of days were detoured spent at the hospital while my aunt recovered from a drug reaction where I (we) thought she was gonna die. I think my mom had prepared herself, my aunt was literally out of her mind. She’s actually doing quite well now. My oldest nephew is officially an adult these days being a great dad and trying to have another….who’d thought? My other nephew just graduated and OMG! he is so much bigger than I am it’s crazy. He’s really a good kid but doesn’t know what he wants to do. My niece is freaking awesome. She came back with me and we went down to the city to see Wicked and sight-see a bit, had a great time and got to get to know her again. I had to work some that week so Duncan took her and his sister to Toronto and Montreal and had a blast I heard. My brother is awesome and I got to spend a good deal of time with him this time….I miss him.

…..and lots of GOOD food!  Still missed a lot of people I wanted to see but  NC is a big state, but saw Ray, Tommy, Margaret, Luis, Joe, Chris, and Michael & Lara…love you all

2010 turned out to be the year we finally had air conditioning put in, and it’s a good thing too because it’s been the hottest summer we’ve had since we moved up here, sitting in it right now. Spent what has seemed like countless hours working on the front porch and now working on the back one but it doesn’t seen to have the same priority in my mind.

Hiked up to the Kaaterskill Falls last weekend and did a small road trip to Vermont today. Other than that, work at work and work at home.

Hubby Hubby

HubbyHubby

Ben & Jerry’s is temporarily renaming popular “Chubby Hubby” ice cream “Hubby Hubby” beginning today to celebrate the start of legalized gay marriage in its home state of Vermont which also starts today.  Link…

The Eating House

I lost all our pictures

Somehow, while doing something totally unrelated, I came across this picture on the web and it happens to be one of the places we ate on our cross country trip in 2001, The Square Shooters Eating House, in Rawlins, WY. I had my first and only buffalo burger there and I remember vividly the stuffed heads all over the walls. I accidentally deleted all of our pictures from this trip and it still makes me a little sad…but memories live on…until dementia and alzheimers sets in that is…

Because sometimes you have too…

Leg, 7 weeks down. Next Friday is my next doctor’s appointment and I am hoping he is gonna tell me I can start putting weight on it again. It usually doesn’t hurt anymore but will still swell up if I leave it down too long. The crutches are getting old too. I can’t carry anything with them so it doesn’t take much for me to be somewhat helpless. I use my baggy pockets a lot as well as bags.

On the other hand, I feel better than I have in, let’s say, 7 weeks. Whenever somebody ask how I’m doing, I say, “a little better every day”, which is true. Besides just wanting to walk again, I think everyone is ready for the weather to warm up again around here. It is April by the way. Haven’t taken the dog for a walk since that faithful morning on February 20th. Had a flashback by the way. It only lasted a second but it was quite disturbing. Planting some flowers some day will be like heaven.

2909 North Davidson St. Charlotte, NC

The Coffee Cup is moving to NoDa after a short unsuccessful attempt in the University area after they were forced out of their long time location on Clarkson St. It doesn’t help me in this land of tasteless food, but one day, I’ll be back.

Until then, tomorrow, I go back to work for the first time in more than a month…and that makes me so very happy.

Sucking in the UV rays

It’ 53 degrees and the sun is out so I took the opportunity to take myself outside and literally plop down on the ground for an hour or so and play with dog and suck in some UV on this white skin. I may not yet see the light at the end of the tunnel but I seem to have faith now there is an end of the tunnel. What a beautiful day. I wish I could work in the yard.

Mmmm….  Showmars

Party Sox

Party Sox, originally uploaded by jeeptick.

I had my party sox on last night for our night out on the town for our 10th anniversary. We went to see The Wrestler after dinner and it was really good. I don’t think it’s done all that well at the box office and that’s pretty sad. A seriously surprise ending and then it was over leaving a lot up to you. Only two people got up before the end of the final credits because we were all waiting for something else to happen.

I finally finished my list. I wrote off Cadillac Records a couple of days after the list because the reviews by all were just terrible. Every other movie rocked. My favorite was Slumdog Millionaire closely followed by Milk The movie month (that turned into two and a half months) was great. My plan is to set movie goals for the summer next.

Happy Valentine’s Day. We spent it going to Utica.

My Checkerboard Cake Was Good

My Checkerboard Cake, originally uploaded by jeeptick.

We had our Christmas party at work today and I have to tell you, there was some good food there. My jambalaya was supreme if I do say so myself and was gobbled up completely, and my checkerboard cake I promised wasn’t exactly a checker board but it WAS GOOD. I haven’t made a real cake since I was a kid. For my pal Debbie, the main organizer, you did a great job.

I ain’t no cook but…

I’m no cook but I think I may go all out and cook a checkerboard cake for the Christmas Party at work this year. I’ve never had it but it looks pretty fun and people will love me. It takes a special pan which looks easily acquirable and if that doesn’t work out, I’ll go for my usual jambalaya or gumbo…always a hit.

I sold Christmas Trees today in the 20 degree weather. It makes it seem Christmas-e when it’s so cold and everybody is so nice and the kids are so well behaved. I think we may get above freezing Thursday. Watching COPS now, it looks so warm wherever they are.
