…and we went to see Wicked while in New York. OMG! Still can’t get Defying Gravity out of my mind.
OH! It’s been such a long time since the last blog entry. Since then, I have traveled to North Carolina and back and really had the greatest time seeing so many friends and family though I must admit, it can be quite exhausting. My mom is doing so well and my dad even seems to be doing a little better but not by much. He does seem to take his medicine without any argument now but anything else is like pulling teeth. My mom is a rock….a crazy rock. My niece and nephews are growing up so fast as well as every other kid in my life….SLOW DOWN WHY DON’T YOU!!! A couple of days were detoured spent at the hospital while my aunt recovered from a drug reaction where I (we) thought she was gonna die. I think my mom had prepared herself, my aunt was literally out of her mind. She’s actually doing quite well now. My oldest nephew is officially an adult these days being a great dad and trying to have another….who’d thought? My other nephew just graduated and OMG! he is so much bigger than I am it’s crazy. He’s really a good kid but doesn’t know what he wants to do. My niece is freaking awesome. She came back with me and we went down to the city to see Wicked and sight-see a bit, had a great time and got to get to know her again. I had to work some that week so Duncan took her and his sister to Toronto and Montreal and had a blast I heard. My brother is awesome and I got to spend a good deal of time with him this time….I miss him.
…..and lots of GOOD food! Still missed a lot of people I wanted to see but NC is a big state, but saw Ray, Tommy, Margaret, Luis, Joe, Chris, and Michael & Lara…love you all
2010 turned out to be the year we finally had air conditioning put in, and it’s a good thing too because it’s been the hottest summer we’ve had since we moved up here, sitting in it right now. Spent what has seemed like countless hours working on the front porch and now working on the back one but it doesn’t seen to have the same priority in my mind.
Hiked up to the Kaaterskill Falls last weekend and did a small road trip to Vermont today. Other than that, work at work and work at home.
Brad Graham of The Bradlands died Monday from natural causes. Brad was the first gay blogger I started reading a LONG time ago. He was a very a smart and caring guy and besides the fact we both loved Star Trek and Matt Damon, that is what I will remember him for. Thanks for the good reads and great advice back in the day. The blogosphere feels a little empty today.
OMG! Look at this thing that was on our door when I got home today. Does this guy think THIS is gonna get him elected to anything? I’m not saying he’s not perfectly qualified, but he looks like he’s some sort of nut job living in the mountains collecting guns waiting for the government to try to take all his possessions and force him to marry a man.
My friend Debbie’s apartment building burned today taking all her stuff with it, and that makes me sad.
Duncan is out of town, a trip that was supposed to be six days but he was able to cut it back to two. Beth is taking care of me awesomely. At work, I have no problem telling people what to do but at home, I feel kind of awkward asking her to get up and get me a drink or will you take Casey out even though she has no problem doing it. She’s in there washing dishes right now while I sit on the Lazy Boy with the leg up in the air. I like doing for myself, very independent. I’ll be glad to be better.
I also want to thank all the nurses and doctors at Ellis Hospital for being so good to me last weekend…and some of those guys are looking GOOD by the way…And thanks for the phone calls.
What a freaking dork in that freaking dorky uniform. Could that be me? …and my pal Jackie who i wished was my girlfriend. I think that was around 1981 or so at Carowinds behind the Dairy Dip, one of my many jobs during my four years there. Wow, that was a fun job, it was.
We had our Christmas party at work today and I have to tell you, there was some good food there. My jambalaya was supreme if I do say so myself and was gobbled up completely, and my checkerboard cake I promised wasn’t exactly a checker board but it WAS GOOD. I haven’t made a real cake since I was a kid. For my pal Debbie, the main organizer, you did a great job.
I may be the most rested I’ve been in a while. I haven’t had to set the alarm for ten days. That ends at 4:30 tomorrow morning. Got a visit from David and drove around looking for old supermarkets and other interesting buildings and even learned a bit more about Albany and Schenectady.
I wasn’t sure if Mamma Mia would be any good or not but it was great! Besides the fact I love ABBA and Meryl Streep and Christine Baranski and Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried from Big Love stole the show. I want to see it again. I want to sing along.
One of my old friends from Charlotte died, very sudden. I know he’s had bad bad health problems for many years but I didn’t really expect this but at the same time, I’m not really surprised by it. I still haven’t been able to talk to anyone to find out exactly what happened but I know I’m not going to be able to make it home for the funeral Friday night. Flying last minute cost much more than I could justify in my mind and in all honestly, I didn’t really feel like the 14 hour drive to Lancaster, SC and turn around and come home. It’s been two years since I’ve seen him though I do talk to him every now and then. He was a truly nice guy who was different and that’s what made him special. They say these things come in threes and in the back of my mind, I wonder if my dad is gonna be number three. He seems just not to care anymore.
On an up note, We’ve had three days above 60. Tomorrow is the last so I’m gonna wear shorts and dream the weekend wasn’t going to be raining in the 40′s so I could work in the yard.
The family’s up for the week so we spent Easter sledding down at Lake Luzerne.
My best friend’s dad died today. I may take a trip down to North Carolina depending on the funeral plans and such. It’s long been expected but you still never know exactly what to do or say. He knows whatever he needs, I’ll do it.
Boom and we’re back. Las Vegas was great and needed. Stress relieved, at least temporarily. One day we took a side trip to The Grand Canyon and it may be one of the most beautiful, astounding natural placed I’ve ever been rivaling Yosemite. We saw elk and deer and birds close up, and just gazing and pondering over the side is enough to take your breath away. On the way home we passed Bedrock City but it was too late to stay. We also took a side trip to Lake Meade National Recreational Area as well as Hoover Dam which we had actually been before. Got to ride a couple of roller coasters which I love and fly 900 feet over the Las Vegas Strip. One night we took in Zumanity which is the more risqué version of Cirque Du Soleil. It was awesome and I’ve never seen so many breast flying around. I can’t wait to see another Cirque Du Soleil someday.
Friday we saw Spam-A-Lot with John O’Hurley. It too was excellent. I’m kind of glad we didn’t see it now when it came through Schenectady. Duncan actually won a little bit of money too.
Went to the aquarium and who could forget Crystal at The Flamingo?
