Was on a plant cart we received yesterday at work.

I brought my dipladenias up from the basement where they spent the winter under a grow light to the warm sunshine of the front porch. I’m sure they weigh 100 pounds each and just got heavier with each step. I can’t wait to do some gardening this spring, maybe tomorrow.

…plus all the times I didn’t bore you with the fact that something different broke on the garage door. This weekend it was a pulley and I still have to replace the cable that it partially shredded while it was broken.

Being a kid of television, you’d think I would’ve seen a lot of old movies. I haven’t, and this is something I’ve just discovered in the past few years. Katherine Hepburn may be my favorite but Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, Jane Russell, and Lauren Bacall are all fantastic. See a trend? Strong, independent, beautiful, women.

I guess I’ve decided to do one small yard project at a time. Yesterday, I dug up and planted grass where we took down two small trees last month. I like getting dirty.

Cool stop sign.

My quandary today, I want a new car. I have never had a car with more than 4 cylinders and automatic transmission. With gas prices only getting higher, my quandary is whether to buy a more powerful car with an automatic transmission or a less powerful car with straight drive. The gas mileage, on otherwise identical cars, is staggering. I’m glad buying this car isn’t an emergency because I’d be pulling my hair out. I’ve got time to make a good decision. Truthfully, I wouldn’t mind having a small SUV because I’m a tall guy and I’ve only had smaller modes of transportation in the past.

Today I painted the front porch and steps after doing some minor repairs. I think it may have been dry enough before we got our five minute downpour. In a one in a million chance, I just found where the mail guy left our mail in the milk container we keep on the front porch which I put in the front yard while I painted. I accidentally spilled it as I moved it. Tomorrow, I’ll tackle the back porch.

My project for today, getting rid of the fifty year old farce that passed for landscaping in the backyard at one time and putting in something new and pretty. I like working in the yard but that shovel thing is for the dogs. One of the things I dug up was this bush thing that strongly resembled the switch tree in our side yard growing up that my mom would get her switches from. They were long, easy to pull off and the leaves could be removed in about one second by grabbing it with your fingers and pulling the switch through quickly. Those things hurt.

If you saw the Comedy Central roast to Pamela Anderson last year, be sure and check out this year’s roast to William Shatner. I am still hurting from laughing so hard.

Project of the year–done–my favorite thing is the new ceiling. OK, the red flowery wallpaper is gone also and that may really be my favorite part. But the fake tile is replaced with wainscoting and that may be my favorite part. Whatever, I think I’ll go break it in. More pics here.

I took a long nap this afternoon. I’ve been so tired lately and naps usually aren’t my cup of tea but I feel great. My dad used to travel during the week when I was a kid. On the weekends he slept…and slept and slept. I never quite got that but now I think I do. First he had a physical job. Second, he had to either leave on Sunday afternoon or get up at 3AM on Monday. The rest of the week he had to get up pretty early but not 3AM. He came home late on Friday and crashed. He then took long naps all weekend unless the family was doing something. Maybe that’s the reason I didn’t get to know him until he retired. We still talk often but with his dementia, sometimes the conversations are detailed and in-depth, and sometimes I answer the same questions over and over again. All I know is I now respect how he worked his ass off when I was a kid and how little I appreciated it.

In November, Duncan bought a new TV and it would not fit in our existing entertainment center. The entertainment center has been sitting in the foyer ever since. We moved it out to the curb with a free sign today. The foyer seems huge.

No, I haven’t had a bad day snorting coke, I’m spooky scary drywall boy. At one time I swore never to drywall again. I swear again. What a mess.

It wasn’t too hard installing a new hot water heater with a little help from a friend. Still a pain in the ass project to do in the evenings but we saved a bunch of money, and since the old one was 25 years old, I really can’t complain. I also chiseled away a little more on the downstairs bathroom project today. I started out with no vision but now I’m thinking it’s gonna look really good now.

We toured Rome and every town and village on the way on a much needed road trip today. Duncan’s on vacation so we hit the road. I gotta say, “There ain’t much happening in Rome, NY.” We picked a big lavender sandwich shop to eat at and it was OK but the tripping part was the best.

At work, they’re changing all the salaried people from 48 to 40 hours a week and I’m just plain gitty…Is gitty a word? What am I gonna do with an extra eight hours a week? Gitty I tell you, gitty…if gitty is a word that is.

I got my first camera phone so there may be some weird useless pictures for a while.
