Matt Damon....

Matt Damon will be playing Liberace's boyfriend

Matt Damon is gonna star as Liberace’s boyfriend in the new Liberace movie next year. Michael Douglas will be playing Liberace which seems kind of weird to me. Matt Damon is God by the way.

Yesterday, the Arizona state house passed legislation that says that straight couples will have first dibs on children. Only if no married straight couples can be found would a child become available to others. This would overrule the existing practice of the Department of Economic Security that makes the “best interests of the child” the primary factor when considering placing a child for adoption.

Snow Dawg

It’s snowing…prolly about six inches, but believe or not, this is our first bigger snow since early December. While the rest of the east coast has been socked a couple of times, we’ve been relatively dry, but this one seems to be piling up quicker than they thought. We’ll see.

Vegas, Back from...

Las Vegas 2009

Grand Canyon 2009 West Rim

The reason you haven’t heard from me in a while is because we’ve been to Vegas and beyond and had a great time.  OMG! We got to see Cher at Caesars Palace! Must I say, she was just spectacular. Her truly live performance was unflawed. The show chronicles her life and everything is costumed and perfectly choreographed.

OMG! We saw Mystére! It’s a Cirque du Soleil show and I(we) loved it. We saw another last time and it was great so there was no way we were not going to se another while we were there. It’s too hard to describe one of these in words, you just gotta go.

We went to the south rim of the Grand Canyon on our last trip and it by far has the best views and it is the most traveled and visited. This time we decided (literally at the spur of the moment)  to visit the south rim. It was also beautiful and home to the skywalk. The last 15 miles to the entrance is a gravel road and it can be somewhat discombobulating but the destination is worth it. The first moment on the skywalk is (can be) scary but after that, take in the view.

Another adventure was Red Rock Canyon, literally right outside of Las Vegas. Breathtaking views, hiking, and rock climbing if you’re into it. We mostly just went sight seeing.

All and all, a nice and thankfully, restful trip (I love sleeping in). When we got home at 1:00am, we had 10 inches of snow on the car at the airport but when we got home, a couple of our neighbors had cleared our driveway. That was nice.

I now hear a snowplow going down the street…nice…and we saw burrows by the way…

Road Trip and a Rough Road Down South

Roadtripping through the Adirondacks

Forgot to include pictures from our road trip through the Adirondacks last weekend. It was gorgeous. Glad we did it because it looks like this weekend isn’t gonna be so nice…and I gotta work…yuck.

A couple of interesting stories out of the south today. First, a lesbian senior in a Mississippi high school will not have her picture in the yearbook because she took her picture in a tuxedo instead of the piece of material they throw over the girls and pretend it’s a dress.

Veronica Rodriguez describes her daughter, 17-year-old Ceara Sturgis, as a perfect child: a straight-A student, goalie on the soccer team, a trumpet player in the band and active in Students Against Drunk Driving.

She also is gay and feels more comfortable in boy’s clothes. So, Rodriguez said she supported her daughter’s decision to wear a tuxedo, rather than the drape customary for girls, when she had her senior portrait made in July. But Rodriguez said school officials at Wesson Attendance Center, a K-12 school in the Copiah County School District, were not as supportive and have refused to include the picture in the school yearbook.

Never understood those schools that had all the students wear the same thing in their senior pictures anyway. Fake dress or tuxedo? Who cares?

A little further to the west, a Louisiana justice of the peace refused to marry an interracial couple on the grounds that he’s worried about the children’s future. And it’s not the first time the judge with 34 years on the bench has done this, it’s pretty routine.

Keith Bardwell, a white justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish in the southeastern part of the state, refused to issue a marriage license earlier this month to Beth Humphrey, who is white, and Terence McKay, who is black. His refusal has prompted calls for an investigation or resignation from civil and constitutional rights groups and the state’s Legislative Black Caucus.

Sometimes, it just makes me speechless the things people do for no sound reason…just speechless.

New Shoes

My New Shoes

My new Adidas, minus the kankle that’ll appear later today once I’m on it a while. My doctor says it’ll be swollen for about a year.

I think this is a sheep

We saw sheep (I think they were sheep) as we road tripped into The Adirondacks yesterday. FYI, there are NOT many bathrooms in The Adirondacks.

I’m getting excited about going to NC later this month. I haven’t seen my folks in almost a year. I put it off then broke my leg and wanted to get well enough to have a good time when I did go plus be able to help them out, so…. and I think it’s gonna be a pro-family time this time rather than trying to drive everywhere. ..we’ll see. Me and Duncan still have to plan a getaway for ourselves.

Gotta go enjoy the nice weather now, it’s actually not supposed to rain today.

Sucking in the UV rays

It’ 53 degrees and the sun is out so I took the opportunity to take myself outside and literally plop down on the ground for an hour or so and play with dog and suck in some UV on this white skin. I may not yet see the light at the end of the tunnel but I seem to have faith now there is an end of the tunnel. What a beautiful day. I wish I could work in the yard.

Mmmm….  Showmars

Pittsfield, Veronica, Snowmobiling, Alpacas…

I’ve been trying harder to move my old html entries to wordpress. Yesterday I got to July 2007 and it struck me as to how hard that month was when Kaleb died, really the next year struck me as hard. It seems to be a year that hardly seemed to exist at some times. I’m just glad to have made it through it. She was just a dog, how does one deal with the loss of a spouse?

While riding the long way to Pittsfield, MA today, the song Veronica by Elvis Costello came on the radio. I remember once after a phone call with my dad when he was not doing good, that song came on and I just lost it…We also saw a couple of alpacas and I got a picture but I’m still sad I didn’t get a picture of the camel we saw in Northern Vermont several weeks ago. By the time we turned around, the camel had gone into a barn. It’s starting to warm up, hell we’re getting into the thirties these days, but they’re still ice fishing and snowmobiling on the lake in Pittsfield. We did a little shopping at The Berkshire Mall, traversed the mountains again and came home. Beautiful sunny day…

Now getting ready for a new Simpsons in HD!
