Rhododendron blooming and it’s five degrees

From the, “I know you don’t give a damn file”, I accidentally broke off a branch from a rhododendron this fall and decided to put it in water on the window sill and see what happened. It’s now 5 degrees and it’s blooming…like you give a damn.

It is unlawful for a person in a public forum or place of public accommodation wilfully and knowingly to publish orally or in writing, exhibit, or otherwise make available material containing words, language, or actions of a profane, vulgar, lewd, lascivious, or indecent nature.

A person who violates the provisions of this section is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than five thousand dollars or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

A FELONY! … A State Senator from South Carolina presented a bill that wants to make cursing against the law. At $5000 a shot, a trip to Myrtle Beach could cost me several hundred grand or the rest of my life in jail. No vacations to South Carolina. Of course, this is the same guy who also proposed a law against sagging pants.

He wants to outlaw low-riders statewide and complains, “The whole culture’s deviant. We have lost control of our young people. I think men should be made to look like gentlemen.” Sen. Robert Ford of Charleston.

He just doesn’t know how hot sagging is, and how come he doesn’t seem to be against girls wearing low cut blouses This guy could be a New York politician with all the posturing and “Please put me on the TV even though I have nothing to say”. What a jackass.

Kirsten Gillibrand is New York’s new US Senator. She’s currently the US House Rep from upstate including the eastern, southern, and northern suburbs of Albany. I actually like her. She’s independent, a proponent of gay marriage yet an opponent of gun control. She’s very much into helping veterans and clean energy, yet not a very big tax tax tax Democrat. I wonder if she likes sagging pants.

Just walking down the street this morning and it dawned on me that this may be one of the best advertising gigs ever. You pay a store for the privilege of placing their names and logo hundreds of times down the street. I also saw bags for Hannaford, Wal-Mart, and Aubuchon Hardware in addition to bags I’ve seen for K-Mart, BJ’s, and Sears. Maybe fall political candidates should give out free leaf bags with their name on them. Vote for… Hey, even if you don’t like the person, it’s a free bag. Would I put out a ‘Vote For Pat Robertson’ bag? Hey, it’s a free bag. Saves me 45 cents…Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy Giuliani last week. That scares me. I actually think it’s a trick of some sort, but again, I digress.

I thought I’d refinance my car seeing how I really thought I could get a better rate. With everything that’s happened this month, I put it off a while. I actually did lock in a point and a half cheaper. They still have to do all the paper work but besides there being fraud, credit report problems, car to loan value too high, etc, etc, it’s a done deal. Oh yea, the car cannot be a Daewoo or a Suzuki. They don’t do loans on Daewoo’s or Suzuki’s.

It was a beautiful day yesterday for doing some work in the yard, so I did. I was digging up a tree with the shovel, and while standing on the shovel, my boot got caught on it as I went to step off. Full throttle fall, flat on my ass. I just sat there by myself and laughed.

Cool stop sign.

My quandary today, I want a new car. I have never had a car with more than 4 cylinders and automatic transmission. With gas prices only getting higher, my quandary is whether to buy a more powerful car with an automatic transmission or a less powerful car with straight drive. The gas mileage, on otherwise identical cars, is staggering. I’m glad buying this car isn’t an emergency because I’d be pulling my hair out. I’ve got time to make a good decision. Truthfully, I wouldn’t mind having a small SUV because I’m a tall guy and I’ve only had smaller modes of transportation in the past.

Today I painted the front porch and steps after doing some minor repairs. I think it may have been dry enough before we got our five minute downpour. In a one in a million chance, I just found where the mail guy left our mail in the milk container we keep on the front porch which I put in the front yard while I painted. I accidentally spilled it as I moved it. Tomorrow, I’ll tackle the back porch.

I think I love Petunas. Click for larger

I think my new favorite flower may be the petunia, the wave petunia that is. I’ve always planted impatiens in the window box on the kitchen window but this year, I switched it up a little. I did plant some impatiens here and there and even in the perennial garden which I still have no idea what’s going on in. I cut back the perennial garden that the former occupant planted and cleaned it out promising a consorted effort to keep it clean. In the last two weeks so much stuff has come up in there and I have no idea what’s a weed or what’s a flower that will eventually blossom. It basically looks like a weed garden. Over all, the yard looks great. The rhododendrons are blooming, the grass is green, and all the other shrubs I planted last summer and this spring are looking luscious.

The first two summers we lived here, we didn’t need no dang air conditioner. We’re from the south. The third summer, we were at Wal-Mart in the middle of the night and putting it in the bedroom window at 1AM. Last summer, we put in an air conditioner for the downstairs. This summer, I decided to go ahead and put them in before it got super-duper hot and may even buy a bigger one to take care of the whole upstairs.
