Permalink A little history:
Frank: My dad
Frankie: My brother’s dog
Grant: My nephew
Clayton: My nephew’s almost one year old, usually referred to by my mom as “The Baby”.
My mom called me today, a day late, to wish me a happy birthday. She was excited because my brother and his kids were there. Here is a short part of the conversation.
Mom: I’m so happy the baby is here.
Me: Grant’s kid?
Mom: No Frankie, and he’s gonna get to stay for two weeks so he’s gonna be able to go to Clayton’s birthday party next week.
Since I had to work last night, we celebrated my birthday last weekend. Last weekend was when it snowed and it was cold where as this weekend it was sunny and upper 70′s. Oh my God it’s beautiful. I planted some shrubs, did some other cleaning in the yard, and took down the ugly dreaded quince apple tree. Many sore muscles.

My project for today, getting rid of the fifty year old farce that passed for landscaping in the backyard at one time and putting in something new and pretty. I like working in the yard but that shovel thing is for the dogs. One of the things I dug up was this bush thing that strongly resembled the switch tree in our side yard growing up that my mom would get her switches from. They were long, easy to pull off and the leaves could be removed in about one second by grabbing it with your fingers and pulling the switch through quickly. Those things hurt.
If you saw the Comedy Central roast to Pamela Anderson last year, be sure and check out this year’s roast to William Shatner. I am still hurting from laughing so hard.
Permalink I put a couple of house plants outside a couple of days ago because they haven’t seen the light of day in years. One is a more than seven foot tall palm tree. Both of them fell over in one of the many storms we’ve had lately. When Duncan came home, he thought I’d had some sort of tantrum and threw them out the back door.
How many people can say their former mayor delivers newspapers. I can. He has a great job though that may come to an end when George Pataki leaves office. Luckily, the Schenectady County Republican Party Chairman is being investigated for groping a fourteen year old girl so his job is open.

Finally, finally, I had time to so something for me, we had some time to do something for we. After more than 60 brutal hours at work this week, we hit the road today, the mountains of Vermont to be more precise. After day after day of rain, the scenery was simply spectacular. We came upon a windmill farm that I’m sure simply discusses many people as the windmills stick out way above the trees. I found them simply beautiful as they spun in silence. A lot of them were covered with clouds while we were there but here are some great clear pictures.
I also got a chance to put out my big red planters I got last fall. I put hydrangeas in them and they are beautiful.
I said beautiful twice in this entry.
Permalink Today was mostly a do nothing day. I planted some flowers in the kitchen flower box because I’ve been anxious to do some spring planting for quite a while. I bought some more flowers but I just didn’t feel like messing with them today. My sinuses are literally killing me and have been for the last week. I may end up going to the doctor on Monday if they don’t get any better. I’ve taken everything there is over the counter.
I just wanted to say, I have the sweetest mom ever. I’ll be doing inventory most of tomorrow so let me say it now. Happy Mother’s Day, I love you and thank you for everything Mom.
Permalink I love planting flowers and working in the yard. All the color is glorious. What I don’t like is mowing and planting grass and digging in the dirt to loosing it up so the grass will hold and watering every day so the grass will grow, and after today, it better grow.
Permalink I got a chance to work in the yard the last couple of days and for the first time in a while, I got a little bit of satisfaction out of the whole deal. It seems our yard has just gone to crap this year, not that it was that great to begin with. I always thought we’d have this green lush yard with flowers and trees and such. We have the trees and plenty of flowers, but instead of lush green grass, we have dirt and weeds. We had perennials and roses coming out the ass. Many of the perennials look like weeds and the roses just laugh as I watch them continue to look like crap. In an effort to minimize the work it takes to keep a postage stamp size yard in shape, I tore out most of the rose bushes and one big perennial garden which accounts for not even a third of them. Next step, there’s gonna be some grass planting going on.

The leaves, they are a falling. Fall is beautiful but fall basically sucks. The flowers die, the trees and grass go dormant, and the weather turns cold. The gargoyles actually look upset because they’re covered with leaves but they should be thankful because in a couple of months, (or sooner) they’ll be covered with snow.
We were gonna go to Manchester, NH today for a John Kerry rally but when I found out it was almost a four hour trip, I lost interest pretty fast. I get more excited every day about the election, not so much about having John Kerry in office, but not having George Bush in office. The race is so close though, I really don’t try to predict the outcome. All I really know is I miss Bill Clinton. Seeing him on TV so much this week has made me realize this. If it weren’t for his dick, I’m sure he’d go down in history as one of the great presidents. We’ll just have to wait to see how history looks at his tenure.
Today is Halloween. Duncan has bought a shitload of candy for tonight and I think I’ve devoured a good portion of it. Baby Ruth bars were always my favorite but I’ve discovered how good the 100 GRAND BAR is. You know, the bar formally known as the 100,000 DOLLAR BAR. I’ve gotten below 200 pounds so unless I want to put on about 25 more, I better stop.
Congratulations to all pardoned on this All Hallows Eve and if today is All Hallows Eve, is tomorrow All Hallows Day?
Permalink It has been a long time since I have gotten home after 4AM. We were on a midnight gay cruise last night and I’m still brain dead today. I’ve been wanting to cruise the Hudson River since we moved here so it was an extra added benefit we found a gay cruise. One thing I never got around to this year was kayaking the Mohawk River. Next year, it’ll happen.
My grass is actually growing very nice. Silly things make me happy.
Permalink The Baldwins do the voices for Paddington Bear; or at least that was my dream the other night. Knowing nothing about the bear, I don’t know why I dreamed about him. Upon further research, I found out the bear is British. I don’t think the Baldwins are talented enough to pull off a British accent.
“With MTBE” was the sticker on the gas pump at the newly remodeled gas station down the street. What the heck is that I asked. It is Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether, an additive that has been used since 1979 to replace lead. It is an oxygenate. Some form of oxygenate has been required since 1992. Yee ha.
Today, I dug up the front yard, dumped more top soil on it, seeded, fertilized, buried it in burlap, and collapsed (after Chinese food). The purpose of the burlap is to keep the seed and dirt from washing down the hill. I must now collapse again. So tired.
