There’s not a lot to say at this time about Amendment 1, the amendment to the NC Constitution that would prevent gay marriage, civil unions, or any domestic partnership of any kind, because it’s all been said on a NATIONAL front and today is the vote. It will be a miracle if it doesn’t pass. I would like to thank all who have worked so hard to prevent it’s passing, and that’s what I need to think about before I make this next statement…..I’m not sure I want to go back to North Carolina. Just not sure, but not positive. How can any person be so ignorant to believe some of the things they believe? I’m not talking about gay marriage but the interpretation of the book that says its wrong. The bible says so many things but so many religious folks have focused in on that one thing and ignored all the other preposterous things it says. By now, we know what those things are, (stoned any adulterers lately?…and how many virgins are getting married lately) and just how does some loving god send most of the population to hell just for not saying some words? Yes, I accept you as my savior. And some murdering rapist to heaven for saying them? It’s just too stupid to believe, but yet they do. I believe there is some other force out there but I really doubt they back up all the foolish things the intolerant, religious, and (scared) people do. AND I am not just talking about right wing Christians or extremist Muslims or Hasidic Jews or crazy African tribesman. There are governments that suppress the information people get but in this country, there is an abundance of information everywhere so to be so ignorant is intolerable……Not sure I want to go back to North Carolina.

And it’s not just NC by the way, just more prevalent. There is this gay kid at work who’s parents threw him out when he told them he was gay. He lived on the street for a while until someone else took him in. This was after his mom invited him back only to take his money and toss him out again.

Just read: My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength, and What Makes a Family by Zach Wahls. Read it if you have any doubts about gay marriage or gays raising kids. It’s some of that “information” I was talking about.

That being said…..

All the pretentious people are all excited about The Whole Foods coming to Albany in 2014, and its really Colonie folks. They have been complaining for years that there is no Whole Foods. For them, Price Chopper sucks, Hannaford sucks, The Fresh Market sucks, the Co-Op’s suck, Shop Rite sucks, Honest Weight sucks….all grocery stores suck, except for Whole Foods. Now they are upset because it’s going to be in a mall in the bottom floor of the Sears while Sears consolidates to the upper floor. People are interesting, I’m sure they’ll still go. Being in a mall is a super reason not to go.

It’s pouring today….but Casey got some swimming in last week. President Obama is in Albany right now, he is getting soaked.

Another note, I actually rode 9 miles yesterday which is something for me because it’s been quite a while….gotta do it some more. It needs to be a habit and it seems it’d be easy because I really enjoyed it. Because it was the first time I had ever been on the bike trail in Albany, I took some pics. I really like it better than the bike trail in Schenectady.

The Schenectady Museum has digitized a whole bunch of of films from the early days of GE including this one about the early women scientist of GE. There’s footage of Thomas Edison, Charles Steinmetz, electricity, bouncing speech signals off the moon like a satellite, nuclear power, and a couple of commercials.

The embedded video below is Charles Steinmetz, who was one of the greatest inventors ever to live. He invented and developed AC power and his house and lab once sat two blocks from where we live. Unfortunately, after he died in 1923, his house fell into disrepair (I guess the lab was not something anybody wanted) and in 1946, it was torn down. Today, it’s ashamed there is only a marker there. This man used to drive around town in his own electric car, taught at Union College, was highly involved in the public school systems as well as the parks system.

I should have written this when it came to me because it was so clear then, but it’s about my dad and Christmas. As I have said before, my dad grew up poor, very poor. So poor he didn’t have any shoes at times so he went to school with no shoes, where the kids made fun of him for that. These kinds of things I never heard my dad talk about or throw in our face but my mom told me stories. He actually did walk many miles to school, through fields, and yes sometimes barefoot. His school is still in use today as in elementary school. His dad wanted him to drop out and help at the farm but he refused and graduated and then joined the navy to get the hell out of there. After he got out of the navy, he met my mom, which is a story of it’s own, and eventually got married. We never had “everything we wanted” growing up but we always had everything we needed. I always had a bike and at Christmas we always got something nice even if my folks did not. My dad didn’t have anything growing up so he always make sure we did. Us kids and he always were up early waiting on my mom to get up so we could open presents and he took great pleasure watching us do so. One of the things we made peace about was this type of thing and I made sure he knew I appreciate it. I miss you dad, especially the times before you went down hill.
