The Capitol. Raleigh is the State Capital.  After the original Capitol Building burned down in 1831, it was finally replaced about 1840 with the structure that you see today located on Union Square.  Of course the legislature does not use it anymore though the governor does keep his office there.  It is surrounded by statues and memorials from past wars and heroes.  It is truly a beautiful and significant building.  World War II Memorial; The Capitol; The Confederate Memorial
