The Woodlawn area still remained largely undeveloped until after World War I. It was made part of
the city in 1923 and was mostly developed by the late 1930's. State Street is it's main drag and contains
mostly older buildings containing small businesses and restaurants. The surrounding housing is mostly single
family which is one of the things that makes it different from the rest of the city.  It is also one of the newer
parts of the city and it has good proximity to Central Park and The Woodlawn Preserve.
