1 January 2002

We're back, as of yesterday at 11pm.  We had a great time and a great Christmas.  Thanks David.  Problems included a lot of rain and long lasting stomach problems that precluded me from doing a lot of activity but none the last, we had a great time.  I have learned today that it may have been something I picked up here because numerous other family members suffered.  We spent the first half crashing at David's and the second half at Dan's.

Monday, after we arrived, we got our usual tour of the bay area and of course, a visit to Safeway and Chinese for dinner just like a real Christmas.  Tuesday, being Christmas, David and Duncan prepared a spread fit for a King, (King of the South) and therefore it was devoured by Queens, Jamie, Dan, David, Duncan, & myself.  We then enjoyed a stroll by the bay.

Wednesday, We started on our walking tour of the city but it was cut short by, well, you guessed it.  Still had a good time.  Thursday was rather nice but we decided to drive rather than walk.  Point Bonita and the Golden Gate Recreational Area then points north and back down to Oakland.  Friday we were privileged to meet himMark is a great guy and I couldn't be more happy for David.  I have found these things are good.  Saturday, I got to meet the other Mark at lunch at this swell Polish joint with other Mark, Duncan and David.

Sunday was the day, once again raining, we took off down highway 1 toward Monterrey.  Very beautiful.

Monday was New Year's Eve and time to come home.  Our flights were uneventful, just a little late and we arrived home sometime after 11:00 pm.  We celebrated the new year with a kiss.  Tuesday, today, about 12:30 am we were on the way to the emergency room.  I have a hernia, as sudden as that, either brought on by handling heavy luggage, or my unfortunate situation (you know).  Everything is cool, just a little bit of laparoscopic surgery performed on a outpatient basis.

I didn't have as many good pictures this time but here's some more here.

It's 27 degrees and it's snowing, about an inch so far on our way to about 10 or 12 inches.  I love snow so much and I like the way it's so quiet while it's coming down.  Tomorrow we'll probably have no school so it will be a great snowman making time, be NO!  I have a freaking hernia so I can't do that.  No running or playing or cramming people's faces in the snow.  Instead I'll just sit and watch our brand new channel VH1 ClassicShelia E, The Kinks, and Fishbone so far tonight.

Went wolf hunting today. (Yea a lot of pictures lately)  Needed a chance to try out my new CD player in the Jeep, seeing how I've had no music in about a month.  Blasted some Fuel and Hedwig along the way as I made my way through the snowy sunshine.  Check out the new stuff here and the old stuff here.

I can't say we've done a whole lot lately but did hit the flea markets and make a road trip to Danville yesterday for no reason other than I've never been there before.  I love cities with rivers through them.  I gives them a personality that other cities just don't have, but not really because of the water.  I love bridges, especially old bridges.  Cities that have an abundance of old architecturally significant bridges have an atmosphere that other cities just don't have.  Most cities that have rivers passing through them are older because water was a major transportation mode therefore cities were formed on water until the advent of the railroad.  New cities can be beautiful for other reasons but the infrastructure (I guess for money reasons) is only built to do it's job, not to be pretty to look at.  Not good for the long run.  Sorry, forgot the camera.

It's official, we're falling apart.  I spent a good part of the afternoon in the Emergency Room again, this time with Duncan though.  He was feeling a little tightness in his chest so better safe than sorry, turned out it was only a little acid reflux.  This on top of my problem, which has been scheduled to be taken care of Monday, we've figured I've been in more hospitals in the past year with other people that I have been in during my entire life.  I heard duck tape fixes almost everything.

My surgery is scheduled for Monday and although I'm not worried on the outside, I must be somewhat apprehensive on the inside.  That would explain why I haven't been sleeping well.  I'm getting to the point where I just want it over with.  Duncan's going to be in Minnesota for the week so my folks are nice enough to come down.

Today is also one of my least favorite kind of days.  A lot of rain and 49 degrees.  I think I'll just stay in and study.  I have the feeling that after Monday I'll be way behind anyway.

If they need any treat sniffing dogs, I have one.

Well, I'm on my way, a little nervous, but not scared.  I may update tonight or not, just depending on how I feel.

21 January 2002  Later

Well, I'm doing OK.  This being the first time I've been under knife, I didn't know what to expect.  It was a little more difficult to recover than I thought it would be.  I was expecting to wake up, put on my clothes and go.  I won't really complain because I feel good now, just a little stiff an I have to wear a jock strap for a while.  You know, those things just aren't natural.  For three days, I must take it very easy, and then for two weeks, don't over exert myself and then, hopefully I'll be good to go.  I'm actually thinking of going to school tomorrow because I feel so behind already.  Thanks for all the calls and e-mails, deeply appreciated.

Miss you baby.

Too gross?  Today was Change The Bandage Day and that's my navel.  I actually just started to bruise today and I was told to expect more but I actually feel great, just moving very slow, if I move too fast, it feels like someone kicked me in the groin.  I am getting a lot of homework done at least, and tomorrow, I get to lose the jock.

And why is Vincent Phillip D'Onofrio so HOT?

Lone Flower

Figured you didn't want to see those pictures first thing.  This lone flower is growing in the yard.  It started coming up after the snow.

I must recover!  Playing ball with dog, I can't throw, the ball hit the tree and busted me in the head.  I can't run, bounce, laugh hard, (I shouldn't be watching The Simpsons Gay Parade) ride in the car for long periods of time........

Duncan's home and he's being so nice to me, not that he usually isn't, just extra nice.  He had a really good time in Appleton Minnesota.  He went ice fishing, went to taco night at the VFW and to Shooters.  Population 3500, 2500 which are in the prison.

Follow up at the doctor today and everything looks GOOD.  It's like I'm a dog and somebody just gave me a treat.  Tomorrow I will take the Jeep out, I will climb stairs and play with dog, enjoy some of this record heat in January.  I'm still pretty bruised up and sore when I get up but I feel ready to take on......
