We had a great 'Almost' Graduation party last night. It was
interesting to see everybody's significant other. Some were just
what you would think while some were just total opposite. I think
everybody was able to cut loose from all the stress of lately.
Consuming large amounts of alcoholic beverages tends to do that.
Thanks to everybody who showed and helped out.
For today, Duncan's parents are supposed to come up for the first
time and unlike yesterdays all day rain, today is going to be beautiful.

Strange thing today. I haven't got to the point that I read the
obituaries but while reading the paper today, I caught a glimpse
of a familiar face. I knew for sure that I knew this person but
the name was not one I recognized. I continued to read and it was
the older brother of a childhood friend from another city. I
haven't seen this guy in more than 15 years and have never seen his
brother. Right now, I cannot see this guy's face in my mind but I
sure new that face in the paper.
People say I look like my brother but I don't see it. I'm sure
it's true though. I like the fact that there is someone out there
who looks like me. He'll always be there if I need something too,
though he'll probably be late.

Sitting around in the back yard this evening noticing the lightning
bugs, aka, fire flies. I remember when I was a little kid, we used
to catch them and put them in jars with holes in the top and let them go
at the end of the evening then do it all over the next night. Do
kids still do that? I don't know. I really don't remember
the last time I've actually taken the time to notice them myself but
they were everywhere tonight. Adenosisine triphosphate,
luciferin, oxygen, magnesium, and luciferase. Who knew
something so complicated could be so simple. I rode a bike when I
was a kid, I still do. I caught lightning bugs when I was a kid, I
don't do that anymore.

Does anyone know what the hell "C" Loaf is?
Ingredients: Pork stomach, water, spices. The C is in quotes
and it makes spam look tasty.
A man after my own heart.

Busy, busy, weekend. This is the first chance to do an
update. Friday, Duncan's niece had a pig-pickin' wedding
rehearsal dinner and I had a great time. Only in the South,
hey? I always enjoy talking to Duncan's dad one on one.
Saturday was another graduation party and sometimes when I think this
group doesn't get any stranger, I'm proved wrong. I always enjoy
that bunch and I'll miss seeing them daily after we're done. Of
course, Sunday was Mom's Day so I hit the long road to my folks
house. I love my mom and I feel sad when I see her getting up
there in years. I think recently she sees it too. I bought
her an I Love Lucy book. I did well this year.
More good news is I got a job. One more week of school, two
weeks off, and then it's back to work. I'm ready to be back.

One of Duncan's old college friends was killed in a wreck
today. I struggle to know what must be going through his mind
right now. My mind wonders why I don't keep in touch with some
people I knew earlier in my life. Best of friends at one time and
now it seems we only see each other a maximum of twice a year. I
love Joe to death, but as we
travel the road of life, the turns and forks we take seem to just keep
pushing us further apart. One thing I do know is I will always be
there for him and he will always be there for me.

I would like to wish the in-laws a Happy 50th Wedding
Anniversary. We spent yesterday celebrating that. Tomorrow
is their actual anniversary and I know of a big surprise but can't
tell. You know, fifty years is a long time, and they were
"dating", whatever they called it back then, for four years
before that. So not long after World War II, their memories and
lives were combined. Our next door neighbors, who are moving
tomorrow, did the 50th thing last year and my parents did it a couple of
years ago. I gives me a little hope for the future.
We also got together with our friend Lara Saturday. We had a
great time but we had a hard time getting a table to eat. An hour
and a half, two hours, and even three hours. We decided just to go
to a movie and eat later, no wait by the way. Does anyone actually
wait three hours on a table?
As for Duncan's friend Butch, he leaves 6 kids and a wife of fourteen
years. His wife is still in the hospital and wants to be involved
in his funeral plans so it is still in limbo. I only met Butch
four or five times but I have never heard so many people have so many
good things to say about a person. He will be missed by a lot of
people...

Strange week. Duncan quit his job yesterday for reasons I will
not discuss here. His dad has also been in the hospital but should
return home soon.
Better news is my nephew is graduating high school tomorrow. It
seems like only yesterday when I lived with my brother and we would get
up on Saturday morning and watch Pee Wee Herman and dance and sing to
the opening song. All grown up now and he's turned out pretty good
considering all the crap he's been through. I'm proud of him.

23 May 2002...Later
New and improved for your viewing pleasure. I figure after
almost two years, it was time to change things around again. Ya
know, snazz things up a bit. Hope you like it. The
background is actually our driveway.

OK, I've been off a week and I have no idea what day it is. I
didn't understand why Good Morning America was on. The holiday
weekend is here but I started it a week ago. I must return to the
world of work next Wednesday and I'm actually looking forward to
it. Should I shave my mustache for the occasion? Actually
I'm working on day nine without a mustache and not a sole has
noticed. It's quite sad actually.

My nephew graduated high school yesterday. It was very nice but
I don't understand some of the rules. Instead of having it in the
stadium at 10 AM, cool and plenty of room for anyone who wanted to come,
they had it at the local college in an auditorium which was cramped and
hot and only allowed for six guests per graduate. I was very
honored to be picked as one by the way. Also, there was no
cheering allowed for your graduate when they walked across the
stage. These people have been in school for 13 years of their
life, and it's been a struggle for many of them to complete.
I crashed at Joe's house last night. I haven't seen him in
quite a while so I had a good time there. His son wants to be a
Jeep boy. He'll be a good one.

No, this is not my
asshole, for the person who asked. And I am being linked to under the phrase Strange Little Man.
I feel it is a complement from one perspective but in some ways, it's
not.

Today was Butch's funeral. I would say it was one of the nicest
services I have ever been to. I didn't know him as well as many
but from all that I've heard, it was my loss that I didn't. If
when I die only one forth of the nice things are said about me, I would
say that my life was a success. If something were to happen to
Duncan, I don't possibly see how I could be mentally prepared.
today I did a lot of soul searching. My life is good. I love my
man.

Brand new 1965 Sinclair map in excellent condition for my map collection. My year of birth and my first
one with the dinosaur. Nothing could be finer except to start my
new job tomorrow.
