There was Shrek, cheerleaders, 50's chick, witches, and
more. Stupid broken camera. Still a great time last
night. Today, my nephew Grant spent his last day with us until
basic training. I remember doing the Pee Wee Herman Dance with him
when he was three.

It's true. As I sit here making my final decisions
on who shall represent me and my interests for the next several years, I
have thought about changing my choices just because they are
exaggerating the truth or down right lying. The only problem is,
in the US Senate race, both sides seem to be slinging so much crap, I
hate them both. With Jesse out of the picture, one might think that the
BS mud slinging hatefulness would have lessened somewhat. Not
true, I guess they learn from the best.

When people would ask him if he was from England, Mr.
Harris would confess: "Oh no, my dear, just affected."
If I could count the fun times we had watching Lost In Space
imitating Dr. Smith. Please sir.... Have a fun
time in queen heaven.
On voting today, one of the things that struck me as strange was the
fact that district elections are voted on by the whole county.
Doesn't that just go against the point of having districts in the first
place? And although it is not final, it looks like Elizabeth Dole
will be our next Senator. Good-bye Jesse, participant in the most
brutal campaigns. "Where
do you stand Jim?"

Happy birthday to my mom
who always stands behind me no matter what, though I always don't know
why.

16 November 2002
My pants are clean once again after watching the transformer across
the street blow up for no apparent reason. It had been only a few
minutes before that I was standing right there at it, blowing leaves to
the street so the city can vacuum them up and make mulch for someone's
garden or shrubs. Mostly I've had the impending change coming in
our lives on my mind. Duncan has been offered a job in Albany, NY
which is getting a very good going over. It would mean me quitting
my job again but it's not like it's the greatest job ever, not even
close. But Albany is a long way, and it's cold. My dad's
health is declining and I worry about him a lot. It's nice to have
a good relationship with him because growing up we were not that
close. Tomorrow, Duncan is going to meet some other people evolved
with his job and give the city and area the once over. We'll see
what happens from there.

Roadrunner
is usually the butter on my bread, the seamless connection between me
and the world. Yesterday, it was a naughty bird but today, we are
back up. Also yesterday, I made a visit to my folks and while my
dad seemed just fine to me, he had a cold and told my mom he said he did
not feel like going to my cousins' house, just go without him. He
thought it was Thanksgiving. It seems the mornings are the worse
time for him and it breaks my heart whenever she tells me a story like
that. I know it is hard on her but it's unbelievable how strong
she is being for this. He has a doctors appointment today, so
maybe he'll get something to make him feel better.
Also yesterday, Wendy's in an old Days Inn restaurant with the
drive through just mounted on the side of the motel and today, a police
car going down the street with Out Of Service stickers pasted
over the police emblems. Are you to young for this? Some of my
oldest and fondest memories are here.

While watching School Ties,
I realized just how naive I can be when it comes to certain
things. I have used the phrase, jewed him down, many
times. I have never even thought about the origins of the
word. Never thought it may be hurtful to someone. If you
would have asked me how to spell it, I would have said j-u-d-e, just
like that. Man, that is so gay.
Still love Matt Damon.

Love you, miss you. Come home soon.

20 November 2002
I never miss work. Today I just could not do it. This flu
or cold I have been dealing with the last several days is peaking.
This will be an unexcused absence from work because I do not have a
doctor in this city, something I know is my fault but I have not been
sick in quite a while so it has not been on my mind. There is so
much to do but I think I will just veg out on the couch for today and
change the Dayquil
to Nyquil. D will be
home in 14 hours.
..........
20 November 2002...Later
Today will be a day to go down in history as Jesse makes his final vote. The biggest bigot and
hater on Capitol Hill. Can't say that I'll miss ya though some
people sure will. In a local survey, people were asked to grade
Jesse on a scale of A thru F. Almost everyone gave him an A or an F,
about equal with a few people giving him a B, C, or D. Jesse has
been in office almost all my life. Good-bye Jesse.
And hello NC HWY 3. Even though North Carolina already
has a highway number 3 on the Outer Banks, it will soon be renamed so
HWY 136 may be renamed NC HWY 3. It is the road that Dale
Earnhardt's headquarters is on. I'm not a big fan of NASCAR or nor
was I one of Dale but after he was killed, it really impressed me the
things he did behind the scenes that he did not publicize. He was
involved with numerous charities and helped a lot of people. He
seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. The whiney asshole that we saw
on TV was just a persona. If they want to rename 136 to 3, I guess
it's alright with me. It's just a small local road. Hope the
people on the Outer Banks HWY 3 don't mind.
New art
for Raleigh.

Today at the flea market...
Rick: I think we should buy that fire hydrant. We
could put it in someone's yard and set their house on fire. It
would be fun just watching the fire fighters trying to figure it out.
Duncan: Rick, that's a real fire hydrant.
Rick: Oh.
...and by the way, after a lot of soul searching, we have decided to
accept the job in Albany, NY. In a couple of months, I guess we'll
be living in New York. More on that later...

24 November 2002
There is nothing better than a good
museum. I'm such a history geek. Also know, there is
nothing worse than a crappy museum. Remember that
always. And Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. 53
years. Wow.

27 November 2002

The return of Hamburgler has had me questioning his hair. I
thought he always had black hair so after an extensive search, I could
not fine any proof of that fact. All the pictures I found have of
him either have him with blond or orange hair. No black
hair. So now ya know.

28 November 2002

Burr..... Last night's almost record low seems to
have taken out some of my flowers. I guess it's that time of year
but it does put a closure on the summer. Today, I hope that
everyone has a great Thanksgiving. We are off to Duncan's clan
today and mine on Saturday. As much as this month has sucked,
there are many things that I am truly thankful for.
..........
28 November 2002...Later

Another Thanksgiving come and gone. Many people seen, many
stories heard, much food tasted. I think a good time was had by
all.
..........
30 November 2002
Today was my family's Thanksgiving get together. All was good
and I learned that my dad does not have Alzheimer's Disease, but instead has hardening of the arteries that is restricting the
flow of blood to his brain. The doctor started him on some
medication that should not have any side effects and should stop the
progression of the disease. His situation should not improve but
it shouldn't get any worse. That makes me feel somewhat better
about being so far away after we move. Still it will be hard.
When we were young, there was a theme park in the North Carolina
mountains called the Land
Of Oz. Complete with a yellow brick road and all the
characters from the Wizard Of Oz. You entered Dorothy's house and
went through a tornado (a film projector put an image on the wall) as
you were ushered into the cellar. Like magic you were in Oz. You then made your way down the yellow
brick road to encounter all the characters including the Wicked Witch of
the West. It closed in 1980 and deteriorated but is being refurbished
gradually as a vacation spot. It is just one of those things that
I think about every now and then along with the trip to Tweetsie every so often.

And just a side note. Just wanted to apologize to anyone who
has left a message on our answering machine in the last month and we
have not called you back. We found out it has been working only
sporadically lately and it has been replaced.
