Yesterday
afternoon, I got home from work and there were two huge UPS boxes on the
back porch. I figured it was something for Duncan's work so I walked
past them and went inside to take care of K Dog and such. I pulled the
boxes in and noticed they had both of our names on them so I opened them
up. Inside was, no were, three toboggans and three snow trays. I thought
it was from some anonymous person who had read my
entry because I didn't see a from slip. It wasn't, it was
Michael and Lara. Thank you so much. I love those guys. Now, if we only
had some snow. Tomorrow we expect a record of 60, thirty degrees above
normal. When I called Duncan to tell him we had received toboggans in
the mail, he thought we got hats. Driving
home from work my Jeep started to make a horrible LOUD noise. I pulled
over, it was the muffler. So this morning, I went to get it fixed. You
could hear me coming a mile away as every person on the street was
staring at me. I know they were thinking the same thing I would,
"Why don't you fix your dam car?" Happy New Year!

Do you know who I am?
Who?
I'm a wicked city woman.
No!
Like your mother warned you about.
Haaaave Mercy...What you fixin to do?
I'm gonna vamp you.
You are?...
...Are you a vamping me?...You know what?
What?
I like it.
One of 519,624 reasons I Love Lucy.
Ok, I'm talking about weather stats...but its 70 degrees outside, 70
freaking degrees. 40 degrees above normal and 20 degrees above the former
record. We should be shoveling snow and wearing big coats but people
are wearing shorts. It's freaking 70...though I think it's done soon as
the temperature is suppose to start falling.
January 13 2007 I've mostly been sitting
around watching anything I could find Lisa
Lampanelli today who is so freaking hilarious. Along with that,80's
videos and sad movies. I can't remember the last time I just sat around
watching television but today is so dreary outside as the temperature
has been falling all day as the first real winter weather has started
moving in. We've had about a half inch of snow this whole season and
it's been unusually warm. That ends tomorrow as I send Duncan out of
town this week on business. Yvonne De Carlo
died this week. I can honestly say I don't know anything about her
pre-Munsters work but if you haven't taken time to look at any pictures
of her, she was absolutely
hot and fabulous. David
Beckham is coming to America. Does anyone really care? Tonight I'm
off to the karaoke bar. How old am I anyway?
January 14 2007
As I talked to my mom today, she mentioned that one of my dad's
uncles died. Not that that's so strange, it's strange because not only
have I never met this person, I've never heard of him. My dad has never
talked about any of his family on his dad's side, including his dad. His
dad was not the nicest of chaps. Old school, kids are born to work on
the farm, not to give any love and affection. That's something my dad
had to learn on his own and it didn't come easy. It seems to come pretty
easy these days.
Today, I put Duncan on a plane in the freezing rain. Actually I
dropped him off at the airport and he got on the plane himself.
January 15 2007 Today is Martin Luther King
Jr. Day. It's quite honestly a holiday much like George Washington's
birthday that most years I just breeze through just like any other day.
Last night I watched Brokeback Mountain again. I haven't seen it since
it was out at the theaters so it again took me by surprise just how
great of a movie it is. The scene where Jack Twist is beat to death with
a crowbar is heart wrenching because it hasn't been that long ago where
that could have been me. The civil rights movement that started in the
1950's (and before) brought to light the atrocities that had been going
on for hundreds of years against black people. And although as much as
King's daughter and niece don't want to believe it, Coretta Scott King
said before her death, if her husband were alive, he would have been a
champion for gay rights. Martin Luther King never mentioned his views on
homosexuality at all publicly, mostly because that was not a topic of conversation
40 years ago. It would have killed his credibility anyway. I too believe
King would have been a champion of all human rights even though he was
killed long before the Stonewall Riots, long before Harvey Milk, and
long before Brokeback Mountain. Today we have freezing rain. Usually
it would be too cold for that this time of year. I'm off today and I'm
glad because they're forecasting up to a half an inch of ice. I can sit
around and think about the gray hair I found in my goatee this morning
and hope we don't lose power.
January 16 2007 It seemed like a good day
to do some grocery shopping. I can't tell you how much this lady (I use
the term lady loosely as I should have used the term fucking bitch)
pissed me off while waiting in line to pay. The lines were long because
the power kept going off and on so they started opening up more. The
line next to ours opened up and an old lady started moving into it.
Right away the bitch with her little boy in tow came through and
actually pushed her way right past the old lady. The old lady said she
was going there but the bitch started going on about how she didn't know
what she's been through and what kind of a day she's had all a very condescending
way. Well as it turned out, another line opened up and me and the old
lady both got out of the building before said bitch. When I saw the
bitch outside I told her she almost got herself punched in the face. I
told her she didn't have any right to talk to an old lady like that. She
then started going on about how bad her day has gone and what a bad time
she had in the store. I told her nobody cared how bad of a day she was
having and that old lady didn't do anything to her to be talked to like
that but she kept arguing. I finally said she was a piece of fucking
white trash and walked off.
January 17 2007 Ok, here I go again. I've watched the first two
nights of Idol and there wasn't a lot there. So far, my favorite is a
guy named Rudy....The benefit was Simon was on high octane funny
tonight. Dreamgirls
however, rocked like nothing I've seen in a long time.
January 18 2007 I watched T.R. Knight on
Ellen yesterday and Ellen brought up the whole incident about being
called a faggot on the set of Grey's Anatomy which led to him coming out
of the closet. I felt bad for the guy because he looked really
uncomfortable during the whole conversation. He had a hard time just
saying to word faggot and I could just feel his pain. Being called a
faggot hurts. To me, it's the worst word you could call me. That same
word means I hate you. It doesn't mean I hate because you're an ass or
mean or something, it means I hate you just because of what you
are....He has nice feet by the way.
January 19 2007
We started out this morning with about a half inch or so of snow
bringing us up to just a little over an inch for the season. By midday,
it was gone. This fifth winter is surely different than the first
two. I started out on a drive west today but got caught in a snow
squall and decided to cut the trip short. I did a little visiting and
came home. It's snowing again... not much expected though. I dropped by
Rotterdam Square Mall today also. I hate malls but they're pretty
navigable on a weekday in January. I noticed they're disassembling the
old carousel by the front entrance and there's a Verizon Store Coming
Soon sign beside it. It's ashamed but I assume the revenue from the
Verizon store is many times what the carousel brought in. I seem to
remember hearing it was an antique but I couldn't find any information
on it. If you know, let me know.
January 20 2007
Who'd ever think there were gay rap and hip hop artists? I ran across
this guy name Deadlee
and he's pretty darn good. Did a little research and found there's quite
a few out there. It's good to see somebody coming out in a community
where being gay has been quite taboo for a long time, much more so than
in mainstream music. Now lets get some country music folk into the
scene...Oh wait, they
are...and I'm not talking about you Kenny
Chesney.
FYI: If you listen to audiobooks, Deception Point by Dan Brown is 17
hours as opposed to the normal 4 or 5 hours. Hey, it's 15 degrees
outside so I've got nothing better to do I guess.
FYI#2: Duncan will be home tonight.
January 22 2007 Hillary Clinton has finally
announced she is running for president. I've always been a Hilary
Clinton fan, though not as much as I am a Bill Clinton fan. It'll definitely
be an interesting race but it makes me wonder just how ready America is
for a female president. According to a lot of people, we had a female
president already, during both Bill Clinton's and Woodrow Wilson's term.
Barack Obama is a nice guy but I don't think he has enough experience,
meaning not that he doesn't know what he's doing, but he doesn't know
how to work the system yet...or maybe he does it that well that we don't
know he's doing it. I don't know much about the other candidates yet but
Dick Cheney won't be there, but is he really anywhere? Woke up this
morning to the snow plows going down the street. Got a wee bit of snow
last night. Just an inch or so but now it's now winter. Boy, I can't
wait for spring now. And have you ever watched the Golden Girls and said, "What the fuck is Dorothy wearing?"
January 26 2007
Kaleb found a biscuit. Since it's three below outside, it's pretty
well frozen solid and she was clamped down on that thing like a crocodile
on it's prey. As she passed by, she sang this song to the theme of the
old "My Buddy" doll commercial. My biscuit, my biscuit
Wherever I go, it goes
My biscuit, my biscuit
I'll teach it everything that I know
My biscuit and me like to climb up a tree
My biscuit and me are the best friends that could be
My biscuit, my biscuit
My biscuit and me!
I let her keep it.
January 28 2007 We all know how Liberty Tax
Service is famous for having some cheap Uncle Sam or Statue of Liberty
standing out in front of their store trying to draw in business. Hey,
it's the American way. There's one local town trying to say that the
person is actually a sign and violates the local sign ordinance. They've
gotten several tickets but the local Liberty is appealing. I hope they
win. During one of the coldest days last week as the snow was coming
down, I drove by a Liberty office in Amsterdam. There was the Statue of
Liberty standing out front, leaning against a pole, smoking a cigarette,
in the middle of the windy wet snow. Made me want to go in.
January 30 2007
I've been waiting on the perfect day for chili all winter and I think
this may be it. I may have made a weeks worth. My mom is in the
hospital again, this seems to be getting more regular. It's nothing that
serious but these things seem to keep popping up. Four days ago, she
told me she felt better that she has in a long time. She's 81 these
days. |
