Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow yesterday so spring is just around the corner. Yesterday we got our first real snow, if 2 or 3 inches counts as a real snow. He has a 39% accuracy rate. General Beau Lee, on the other hand has a 94% accuracy rate. He also predicted spring is just around the corner. In all honesty, Punxsutawney Phil lives in the northeast and on February 2, spring is always at least 6 weeks away and General Beau Lee lives in the southeast and on February 2, spring is usually just around the corner. Speaking of the south, Duncan is down there doing his annual Super Bowl Party and I've got to go to work shortly but honestly, I'm a little under the weather and don't want to go. I probably will anyway.

My mom got out of the hospital yesterday feeling better with new meds. They're talking about selling their house this summer. It's just getting too hard to keep up with everything for them because it's all been on my mom for the last couple of years anyway. Keeping up the house and taking care of my dad takes a lot out of her.

I had a dream last night and I can't help but to think there's something Freudian about it, something I need to confess, but quite honestly, I've been pretty good lately. Actually, I'm pretty much a goody-two-shoes anyway. I need to think about it.

I came home from work early the other day after only two hours and have laid on the couch since. After a ton of Dayquil, Nyquil, and Puffs Plus, I woke up this morning feeling better. Thank you Puffs Plus because that Scott's toilet paper ain't no good for your nose...How come everybody else who gets sick loses weight, all I want to do is eat when I'm sick. I want to eat right now. Maybe not, because I need to clean up the basement where the sewer backed up through the floor drain the other day. There's nothing like seeing shit and toilet paper floating around.

All the Super Bowl commercials are here.

A Lens Crafters commercial from Germany. Makes me want to buy my next pair of glasses there.

This one's long but it's intense just to watch these guys ride, but ain't it always. I could have posted a hundred more because as I sat home sick yesterday, I'm sure I watched about four-hundred or so.

And because I don't talk about work too often here...in the words of Lady Sovereign:

Love me or hate me, it's still an obsession.
Love me or hate me, that is the question.
If you love me then thank you!
If you hate me then fuck you!

Does the world seem a little bit cleaner today? I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, I won't be missing the trash which called herself Anna Nicole Smith, the biggest nobody to ever exist. Why this lady was ever on the news or entertainment show (all entertainment shows and magazines suck) for more than 8 seconds is beyond me. I think I'm going to go outside and smell the fresh air.

I've called my mom a couple of times tonight. I know they go out on Friday nights but shouldn't she be home on a Thursday after just getting out of the hospital? Stupid things make me worry lately because God forbid she actually answered her mobile phone. OK, I guess she's been out of the hospital almost a week so they can go out if they want too. She may be playing bridge or something but where's my dad? He ain't playing bridge, that's for sure. Now it's my time to worry about them.

I've had three calls in the last two days wanting to know how much snow we have on the ground. Between zero and one inch I say. They see all the areas of western New York getting 82 inches of snow in the last several days. We've gotten 4 or 5 inches total this whole season. I actually wanted some snow when we were having record highs in the 70's in early January. I'm done with that. Now I just want the temps to get over 25 or so. That'd be nice.

Duncan went to NC last weekend. I love my sister-in-law. He brought home a Christmas present from her. I'm gonna kill that bitch. That's right...

February 14 2007

We're getting our first taste of winter today and my first 'official' blizzard. We're expecting around 18 inches or so which would normally sound pretty hefty but after some areas got nine feet last week, two feet doesn't sound like all that much. It's actually pretty nice finally seeing some snow on the ground. What's happening to me? It's also Valentine's Day but it's not usually celebrated too much around here because yesterday was our anniversary, a much more important day. We've had eight years together. Since I met Duncan, I am stronger, wiser, freer, and happier. here's to you man...I love you.

It's been a couple of years since we had to clear out a habitrail for Kaleb, now if we only had one of those hamster balls in Kaleb size so she doesn't have to even touch the snow.

I finally decided to go to the doctor about this damn cold that I thought I got rid of last week. I couldn't get an appointment until tomorrow morning. This cough seems to kick in at night and it wears me out. My mom is in the hospital again today. I think a trip is in the near future. I can't even count the times she's been in the hospital lately.

February 23 2007

I guess I'm off to North Carolina tomorrow to see my folks. It's been pretty fast in the planning and I'm not really in to it much. I guess because I still am hoarse and would rather not talk. It'll be good quality time with them though and I guess Duncan can hold down the fort.

February 24 2007

First let me say the entries for the next week were made on paper and then transcribed all at once because I haven't been around a computer for a week...I caught my first plane right on time and all seemed to be going well. When I got to Philadelphia, my next plane was canceled and I was stranded for a while. I had forgotten the ear pieces to my IPod also. There were no planes to Raleigh but I could fly to Charlotte and then fly to Raleigh from there. Of course my luggage never made it. Flying from Charlotte to Raleigh I had the special treat of riding with a strange man and his 52 day old rare parrot. What a treat. He was delivering it from Texas to Zebulon. I got to smell bird shit all the way on this turbulent trip while he played with the bird with a rattle the whole time. I thought I was going to throw up by the time we got there. Of course I had to wait in a 30 minute lost luggage line when I got there. In finally got my rental car and left. After running some errands, it was time to leave Raleigh when the oil light started going on and off so I took that car back and got another. I finally arrived and got to see my mom and she seemed in good spirits but looked bad. She was worried about my dad. She also told me she woke up dad in the middle of the night crying and ask him to pray with her. She thought she was going to die. I bought some antiperspirant and a toothbrush and headed to my dad's.

February 25 2007

Got a call from Ruth at baggage saying they had my luggage but no claim on it. I called her back and left a message and she called me back saying someone would call me back to set up delivery around 1:30. That was the last I heard from them until Tuesday. Went to see mom again after eating at one of the fanciest Bojangles I've ever seen. We spent the day at the hospital with my brother and his family. Went out to eat at the K&W, ahhh, the mac&cheese. Mom looked better but she looks old, like my grandmother...Tried to leave a message with US Airways but no answer and voice mailbox was full all day.

February 26 2007

Filled my dad's pillbox according to mom's instructions. 3 prescriptions, 1 aspirin, and 3 vitamins. Total 7 pills.

Voice mailbox still full at US Airways.

I called the corporate office and of course their call center is in India. Went back and forth all day. They say my luggage is in Raleigh. Local voice mailbox is still full. Me and my dad decide to go to Raleigh and get it. Besides, it'll be some good 'us' time. It ain't there. They flew it to Charlotte so they could drive it up from there. The reason I fly to Raleigh instead of Charlotte is about $200. My dad was tired and getting mixed up. He won't wear his hearing aid and you have to say thing three times and he keeps asking the same questions over and over because of his dementia. I feel guilty but he wore me out with everything else on my mind, I was ready to pop. I had mot mentioned the countless time I've spent on the phone on hold with corporate or trying to get through to local. Can't even get through to US Air corporate now.

February 27 2007

Today was a long but good day. I got my luggage and finally got through to US Airways with the information for them to get my luggage to me. I got my luggage but the never called me. My mom came home tonight with oxygen. There was a misunderstanding as to if she had to wear it all the time or only at night. She's just happy to be home but very weak after 8 days in the hospital. She has to call the doctor in the morning. I got my luggage but only after buying some new clothes and I found a Rack Room Shoes Outlet in Statesville where I got two great pairs of shoes for less than 25 bucks. I also got some 97 cent ear pieces for my IPod.

Duncan took Kaleb to the doctor today because she's been peeing on the floor and drinking a lot. He had to get a urine sample from her. I was laughing just thinking about it but it turns out it wasn't as hard as I thought. I turns out it's not diabetes or any kind of infection as well as a host of other things. It may be a tumor or a thyroid thing. Al the test have not come back yet.

I'm glad I'm here. I don't think they could have got along without me.

February 28 2007

Mom made great progress today. 100% turn around. I hope it continues. My nephew and his family came over today. Old ladies, maybe all females, love babies. It made her day. My dad seems rested and is doing better. The whole hospital thing really stressed him out mentally and physically. Talked to Ray and he's coming up tomorrow.
