I was just watching TV when
someone called someone a fool and it reminded me of something. One day
when me and my brother were fighting, I called him a fool. My dad was
there which was rare because we were usually on our best behavior when
he as around because we were scared of him. Usually my mom got most of
our BS. Anyway, he didn't seem to have a problem that we were pounding
the shit out of each other but when I called him a fool, he got upset
and told me that I will go to hell if I called someone a fool. Maybe I
should have called him a mother fucking asshole son of a bitch cunt. (I
love my brother, he is one of my best friend these days) I've always
wondered what that meant so I just googled it. Seems in the bible,
Matthew said, "Whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell."
I guess my dad picked that up when he was a kid. However, it seems that
the bible also makes several references to people calling people fools
including Matthew. Now, let me tell you this, I have never read the
bible, not at all. We never went to church and when we did, my dad
didn't go. He never liked organized religion. But what this actually
means is he who has unrighteous anger in his heart is a fool and that is
a sin. Righteous anger is not a sin.
I guess this has been my first
bible study class. Next time, we will study the section that tells how
God loves homos but all the straight people are going straight to hell,
hence the term straight.
By the way, I don't believe in hell. I do
believe in some sort of other existence though I don't really know what
it is...and I do talk to God, and I'm not just talking about God Dammit
and Dear God, Why did you do this to me?
....It's that time of year
again so I'm selling Christmas Trees. Yesterday was our first big day
and it's a lot of fun. Kid's eyes just light up as they walk around
looking. I really like to see dads that are really in to it. I don't
think mine ever went with us to pick a tree but I may be wrong. By the
way, it got up to around 24 yesterday as I stood out there selling those
trees and I ended up with a chapped butt when I got home last night so
Duncan decided he wanted to slap it around. Today it's much better.
It's
snowing, our first snow of the season, expecting about 4 inches and
temps aren't supposed to be out of the twenties for the foreseeable
future. Last year, our first snow was on Valentine's
Day.
It's
Christmas time and I just watched Frosty The Snowman. Strange I never
realized it was made in 1951. I guess I thought it was made when I was a
kid, maybe all kids think that. I'm now watching the 1992 Jonathan Winters, Jan Hooks, Andrea Martin, Brian Doyle-Murray, and John Goodman's
Frosty Returns. It basically sucks but the villain's cat that just
doesn't give a crap is pretty funny.
As you see, I took some time
today to put some lights on the front of the house. Super huge lights
that really have small lights inside of them, so retro I love them. I've
heard the tree may or may not get put up tomorrow. It may be a busy day.
Update:
The original Frosty was actually from 1969 but I know I saw 1951 on the
credits so I backed up the trusty DVR and it is actually based on the
1951 song, Frosty The Snowman, ahhh...
I had the day off so of course I picked some stupid project to work
on instead of doing the Christmas shopping that I had promised myself
that I would do so tomorrow, I'll probably be out in the snow doing just
that. I started putting in shelves and organizing the basement. I'll be surprised
if the trash guys actually take all of the stuff. Maybe somebody else
will think it's interesting.
More good
news for the neighborhood. I'm no fan of tearing down old buildings
in favor of putting up new, but there may come a time when there is so
much decay and need for renewal that any spark you can throw a
neighborhood is worth it. As more new development takes place, older
buildings in the area tend to benefit. An old
school (6th picture on page) down the street from 1875 that has
served as County DSS in recent history has been sold and will likely be
torn down. It's very exciting to see the changes happening after many
years of decline.
I ponder as the plows go down the street our high of 22 today with
snow currently falling about an inch an hour, I notice that in my
hometown of Charlotte, the high
is expected to be 77. Not complaining mind you, just pondering...
Also
pondering Tina Turner's comments, or lack thereof, on sack of crap, Ike
Turner's death. "Tina is aware that Ike passed away earlier today. She has not had any contact with him in 35 years. No further comment will be
made," said her spokeswoman.
And New Zoo Review from kidhood.
Emmy Joe was kind of hot. Doug wasn't.
We've
had about 15 inches of snow the past few days topped off with a lot of
sleet which makes it very heavy. The snow does make the Christmas lights
look pretty though.
I finished my Christmas shopping Friday in a
frenzy after work, got them wrapped and packaged to be shipped, and got
up Saturday to mail them before work. I had to park forever away from
the post office and wait in a huge line but was quite entertained by the
girl next to me as we made fun of the lady who was all mad as hell at
the front of the line exclaiming, "I'm not filling this out, I just
filled one out". --"If you don't fill it out, we can't mail
it"-- She filled it out. She was so mad it was funny. She tried to
do the, I'm stomping out of here thing, but she dropped her purse all
over the floor on the way out which made it even funnier.
We sold our
last Christmas Tree Saturday just before the hardest of the snow hit and
that puts an end to that. And I talked to my mom today. She's written 40
of her Christmas cards and only has about 30 more to go. I don't even
know 70 people, much less 70 people's address. She said they've already
received about 50...
I used to love watching Ultraman
and Space
Giants when I got home from school when I was a kid. I love a good
Godzilla Fest to this day or any Japanese monster movie. Ultraman, who
got his super powers from the sun would battle monsters until they
almost beat him, fly back into the sun and come back refreshed to annihilate
the monster or villain.
It seems there have been several incarnations of Ultraman over the
years but here is the one from the American version of the original
series.
I would say that this is a classic Ultraman fight except it doesn't
seem he had to fly back to the sun to recharge.
Rodak was the evil alien, who along with his henchmen, The Lugo men,
and an endless supply of monsters tried countless times to take over or
destroy the Earth. Methuselah created The Space Giants to combat this
threat. Goldar, a 50 foot robot that had many powers and could turn into
a rocket was married to normal size Silvar who could also turn into a
rocket. They wanted a child and she said you ain't sticking that thing
in here so they asked Methuselah to create them a son so he made Gam, a
boy who also could turn into a rocket who was best friends with normal
kid Mekko. When the Earth was in danger, Mekko summoned The Space
Giants.
Goldar pulls some WWE on a monster.
Here is Goldar, Silvar, Gam, and Methuselah. I assume they shrunk
Goldar down to human size for this publicity picture.
The Space Giants intro was a lot better than the Ultraman intro...I
don't remember ever playing Ultraman with my friends but we used to play
Space Giants a lot. I always wanted to be Silvar (any wonder?) mainly
because the way she turned into a robot was the coolest. That's my
story and I'm sticking to it.
Prisoner Cell Block H
came along much later in kidhood, maybe high school. Me
and my mom had a secret addiction to this Australian night time soap
opera featuring cussing, fighting, lesbians, extortion, and the like.
Haven't seen it since but today I ran across it on YouTube.
We actually decided at last minute for a three day trip to North
Carolina for Christmas and had a thoroughly good time yet also
thoroughly exhausting. It's good to see my mom is doing so well
physically. I think taking care of my dad is wearing her out mentally.
Both physical and mental, my dad is going down hill. He could hardly
walk one day we were there but after going to the doctor, we found out
it was arthritis and nothing that required surgery. My mom said he was
back to normal in a couple of days. We hung with my brother where I had
my first fried
green tomatoes and considering, I really don't like tomatoes, I
loved them.
After leaving the airport, we took a small tour before we took off
for the families. It always astounds me how much Charlotte has changed
every time we pass through. The old Charlottetown Mall then Midtown
Square is gone. I knew that but I didn't really expect not to even
recognize what was going on there. If you were to have dropped me down
there, I don't think I would have known where I was. It really looks
nice by the way. I went to high school close to the airport. There was
nothing except a few rednecks here and there and a couple of small
subdivisions. Now it's crazy with development. After our small tour, we
went to Reedy Creek Park to spread Kaleb's
ashes where we used to play. I actually got choked up trying to say
something. We then threw her treats
in the lake to keep her happy. I (we) still miss that dog... It was then
to my folk's house for a day and then to meet up with my brother. After
that, we went down to Duncan's family for the "big" dinner and
back to the airport. I was a little homesick for a while. Since then,
I've just wanted to sleep when I wasn't working.
