Captain Proton and Queen Arachnia try to save the universe from Doctor Chaotica during a halodeck malfunction. This is one of my favorite Janeway moments on Voyager. I've been missing this show for so long and now I see they're on Spike in the afternoon so maybe I can catch one on the DVR every now and then. I think we're going to see Mamma Mia again today.

I took Casey to the dog park today. She was having such a good time on the way home hanging out the window, I drove around for 20 minutes just for her to do some sniffing.

With continued population erosion, above-average unemployment and slow economic growth, Buffalo has been included on a list of "America's Fastest-Dying Cities" on forbes.com.

Buffalo is the only city in New York state to make the publication's list. The editors take into account a population loss of nearly 42,000 residents since 2000, an unemployment rate of 5.7 percent compared to 4.3 percent nationally and annualized gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 1.9 percent.

Forbes said: "Buffalo has long been synonymous with city-in-decline. In the early 1900s, Buffalo was one of America's 10 largest cities, a burgeoning industrial center. It's been on decline ever since, despite a location that takes advantage of trade with Canada."

There are four Ohio metropolitan areas on the list -- Dayton, Cleveland, Canton and Youngstown. Other cities include Detroit and Flint, MI; Scranton, PA.; Springfield, MA; and Charleston, WV. Some of them are obvious including Youngstown, OH which I spent a lot of time in during the 1990's. It makes Schenectady look like Beverly Hills. Springfield, MA is kind of surprising. Our trips to Springfield made me think it was one of the northeast's exceptions. I suppose we just didn't hit the right parts of the city.

I have a friend. Her boyfriend treats her like shit. Controlling and verbally abusive. She can't even talk to a guy on the phone. She can't go out with her friends by herself. She can make no financial decisions herself. She tells us these god awful stories about him trying to control her... He needs his ass kicked... She loves him...

This one goes out to Duncan. Thanks for everything. I love you... Now let's go kick his ass tonight.

Casey loves the water

Casey loves the beach

One picture of tea per cup...only in the south

Being exhausted, it seemed like a night for a fish camp, something unheard of out of the Carolinas. And nowhere else could you get your own picture of tea.

Carolina Beach Boardwalk

Carolina Beach Boardwalk

Casey's asleep on the couch, Duncan's almost that way. Almost time to go home. Don't wanna...More later. Until then, check out my flickr.

Except for the ride home, which was excruciating at times, we had a great vacation. Casey loved the beach as much as her pops do. Ate a LOT of good southern food. Road trips via the sea. Lots and lots and lots of friends and family. Best donuts ever. Beautiful sunsets. And lots of hot guys, no pictures, I guess I was good.

So this is what it looks like in the light. We stopped at this rest area on I-287 in Jersey. The sign said "Building Closed" but the rest area was open. It was completely dark in the thick of night surrounded by trees. It was time for Casey to go so we got out but left our lights on. There were several guys in cars sitting there in the dark. Sorry we disturbed your business guys. I had to pee so I whipped it out beside an unlit light pole and we got out as fast as possible.

Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps

How could I let the Olympics pass without mentioning Michael Phelps? I've alluded too, or screamed rather, my disgust for China, or the Chinese government rather, many, many times. Yes I still hope something really bad happens (with no one getting hurt) at the Olympics that embarrasses and humiliates the shit out of China. It irritates me to the core that such a large county can treat it's people so inhumanely and still be rewarded the world stage of the Olympics. I'm sure there were payoffs involved just like Salt Lake City because this decision was made years ago, just no one was caught in this instance. Anyway, congrats to such a classy guy as Michael Phelps for taking the swimming competitions home with him. The Baltimore Sun described the hometown swimmer as "a solitary man" with a "rigid focus" at the pool prior to a race, but afterwards, a man incredibly invested in the success of the people he cares about. He's unbelievably kind-hearted", recounting Phelps's interaction with young children after practices.

So to hell with want you’re thinking
And to hell with your narrow mind
You’re so distracted from the real thing
You should leave your life behind
I’m free to decide, I’m free to decide....

Just a reminder, China Sucks.

Rue McClanahan, Caroline Rhea, Olivia Newton-John, and Leslie Jordan. How could it not be good? I set the DVR to record Sordid Lives and forgot about it for a few weeks. I watched the first episode and it just sucked but I usually give shows a few tries if I want it to be good. I'm now hooked on this stupid show that puts a capital C in camp. It's in soap opera form and takes place in 1998 in Texas except for one kid who lives in West Hollywood. Leslie Jordon plays an old gay queen who impersonates and worships Tammy Wynette while his therapist is trying to dehomosexualize him. Rue McClanahan is his Christian mom having an affair with a young married man and letting Olivia Newton-John live with her after she got out of prison. Add more family and white trash and you have an episode.

Casey starts obedience school tomorrow. We have to work some of the crazy out of that dog.

One of the things I miss about down south are the warm sultry evenings. It's actually very chilly here this evening, though it does make for "good sleeping weather".

I used to just sit and listen to this song and be sad. I guess sometimes you need to feel sad.

This evening was Casey's first obedience school class. I can now see light at the end of the tunnel. If anything, when we got home, I took her for a walk and she zonked out on her bed. Full of treats...

Tropic Thunder: Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller sucked but everybody else was really good. I never understood the whole "Robert Downey Jr. is a genius" thing but now I do. He was great. Thanks for finally getting off the drugs dumb ass. this kid named Jay Baruchel was a real stand out but I'm not sure if it was because he was hot or just really good. I'd give the whole movie just a B but Robert Downey Jr. was worth the ticket.

No Parking

I just listened to Barack Obama's speech from last night at the Democratic Convention. It was inspirational, though mesmerizing may be a better word. You know I was a devout Hillary fan but he is slowly winning me over as time goes by. I found myself nodding my head in agreement as it went on. It made me remember the speeches given by Bill Clinton...back in the day.

John McCain revealed his running mate today. I think Sarah Palin was actually a good bold choice. I think the main reason was to attract Hilary Clinton voters while still sucking up to the NRA, pro-life lobby, big oil, and conservative Christians. There is definitely a lack of experience. Do we want her to be president when (not if) John McCain kicks the bucket?

I got home from work early today and ended up on AMC and Star Trek Nemesis was coming on. I thought I was going crazy when I couldn't remember anything about it. I can recite the plotlines of most any Star Trek (any show) episode or movie but it was beyond me why I couldn't remember any of this. I finally talked to Duncan and he said we had never saw it but we couldn't remember what was going on in 2002 that we didn't see it. I went ahead and recorded it for him but come to fact, he recorded it for me last weekend. I had no idea that Data died in 2002, our time that is.
