Country Trip of 2001-Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas,
Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina.
|

I spent most of my time in Salt Lake City and the surrounding
areas. I must say it is probably the friendliest place I've ever
been. On three sides it's surrounded mostly by mountains and on
the west side, the Great Salt Lake. To the north is Ogden which
has skiing to the west and is a great place for a road trip.
Huntsville is home to the oldest continuously running saloon in the
country. Provo is where the money is and has the greatest Mormon
population as well as home to Brigham Young University. Park City,
where the majority of the Olympics will be held, is a beautiful place to
ski as well as an old western town that's been converted to a tourist
town. Utah is where I lost most of my pictures but here are some
to give you an indication of what it's like.
|

View of Salt Lake City, and The Capitol. The cities greatest and
neatest neighborhood are close to the Capitol and the inner city.
A note, home to Menlove Chevrolet
|

Park City skiing, all town pics were lost, and a very diverse collection
of museums.
|

Didn't get to see a lot in Nevada except for a few gambling joints,
|

but I did check out the Bonneville Salt Flats on the way. Wish I
had the Jeep.
|

Idaho was beautiful and COLD. It is also home to one of my
favorite cities, Pocatello. This town is home to Idaho State
University and just reminds me of the 1950's. It's thriving yet
still has the look of 1955 or 60. Did I say cold?
|

Wyoming was a beautiful place. We crossed the Continental Divide
and I got to stand in snow up to my thighs, southern boy ya know.
Laramie and Cheyenne are also a great places, home to The University of
Wyoming and where I got to walk on a frozen pond for the first
time. However, my favorite place was the town of Rawlins.
This is where we ate at the Square Shooter Eating Place home of my first
buffalo burger.
|

Colorado and Kansas is where the terrain changed significantly.
From beautiful mountains to beautiful flat. Denver was awesome,
but the small communities were still my favorite. Hays. Russell
(home to Bob Dole), and Topeka, the place where I had my most memorable
dream. Paul Lynde worked in the Krispy Kreme close to my house and
I used to go there regularly. When he was dying, I went back for a visit
and he remembered my name. Also, I never imagined all the oil
wells throughout Colorado and Kansas.
|

Missouri was my favorite state we crossed. St Louis was great and I fell
in love with Kansas City. I'd be ready to move there if it weren't so
cold. We did have the hardest time finding just a sign to show we
entered the state.

The Saint Louis Arch and the accompanying museum under the ground.
|

Got to visit the home of country music for the first time, Nashville,
TN. Got to visit Music Row, nothing remarkable, but downtown was
quite appealing as was the whole trip through Tennessee. After
that, it was home to North Carolina and Charlotte. I suggest a
road trip across the country to anyone who has the time. I never
thought I would. My regret is I lost about 75 pictures.
